Yeah use SETA, I think the keyboard command is J.

Be warned though, if you alter the course of the ship SETA turns off. Even with SETA it can take a while to get anywhere but thats where the jumpdrive comes in later on (available from the Goner Temple). Just load a ship with a jumpdrive and a ton on energy cells and you can jump all the way across the universe.

Assuming X3 is similar to X2, you can just set the autopilot for where ever you want to go, and hit SETA.

WE had a thread a while ago, i cant seem to find it though. Once you get into the story a bit, you get a jump drive, which speeds things up somewhat, in system travelling is always slow though, especially in the cargo ships. Its definately worth sticking with though.

I'm considering buying one of the 'X' games; is there much difference between X2 and X3, and would I need to play one before the other to get the storyline etc?

Sorry to invade your thread mate, just thought I might as well ask seeing as it's on-topic

X3 is much prettier, and the real beauty of the games isnt in the story, its all the stuff around it, i also prefer X3s economy to X2s. Depends how cheap you can get it though

Yeah - I was involved in the other X3 thread that we had around here - the best way to get the most out of the game (and there is a lot to it if you stick with it) is to venture over to the egosoft forums, loads a good advice there and people are always willing to answer your questions. Give it go.

I played the X2 demo and from watching firefly I really liked the look of the game so I got X3 when I realised it was out. Some X2 fans say its an awful step backwards, I on the other hand love it. Managed to rake in loads of money with trading fleets and factories.

You should see the size of some of the ships in the game, they go from smaller 1 man scout and fighter craft, to medium sized trade vessels, transport vessels and corvettes to gigantic trade ships and destroyers (I have just bought one of the large trade ships, I don't fly it personally but I've got a few smaller craft docked in it and just flying around it is great fun). it is a gorgeous game to say the least, and I'm on minimum settings untill my new pc parts arrive.

The story isn't that great but thats not the reason why so many people like it. It's more of a sandbox game, similar to morrowind where you can do the story if you want but you can run off and do whatever the hell you like.

There are a few issues like bugs but if you download the latest patch from egosoft it should be fine. The main problem is the copy protection system on the disk, starforce I think it's called. People have had alot of problems with it, but mine seems perfectly fine to me.

If your PC is not particularly powerful then X2 will run better.

If you like frequent lock-ups and CTD's then get X3...lol...although there is a beta patch 1.3.1 that is supposed to fix that.

Seriously though get X3, play.com had it cheap enough and the late game is much more satisfying because a wider range of factories are profitable so you can make weapons and stuff for your own use as well as for sale. In X2, the economy was not at all realistic in that the higher tech factories only existed to create demand for food and energy and the balancing was such that solar power plants were very cheap and by far the most profitable factory to place in any sector. Combat is also fun in X3, wasn't really right in X2

I'm seriously thinking about getting X3. My old house mate plays it and I've been watching his progress. The size of his 'fleet' is quite impressive to say the least.

Just downloaded the demo of X3.... I sat there waiting to get into the game menu as these 'cut scenes' went past...

After 5 minutes, I worked out the demo is actually just footage
