The first DX10 game announced

Back in September 2005, at the PDC Microsoft Conference, CryTek, developers of Far Cry, released a movie that showcased some of the capabilities of the Cry Engine 2 under DirectX 10 API: dynamic day/night cycle, fully interactive enviroments, sunrays and diffuse transmission, real time soft shadows, soft particles, interactive/destructrible enviroments, volumetric clouds, and advanced shader technology.

There's some screenies now - look! At! That!

Yeah I've seen the Crytech demo - looks good.

Bet it means I'll have to invest in ANOTHER new card that has universal shader....ATI's x1900xt is coming soon...must...wait...longer...

Anyone know if the 7800GTX will support DX10?

EDIT: Some of that stuff in the video looks amazing but when you're flying through the clouds the line where the trees are rendered properly is so obvious. Apart from that is was gorgeous. The physics in that crash looked pretty good. I was watching a video of that new physics processor in action, hardly revolutionary. Again some of it was good, some of it pretty poor.

Thank god for that I've only just bought one, wouldn't want it to have to upgrade. Was thinking about waiting for a price drop after the 7900 or whatever comes out but I couldn't . I'll grab another one though when the prices go down for SLi.

Any particular reason for your confidence.
I'm just about to buy a 7800GTX and don't want to take the plunge if it's not going to be up to the job for the foreseeable future.
Cheers

I think you are wrong kasavien becuase no graphics hardware exists today that fully supports all the known DX10 features. For example, geometry shaders, which are one step above vertex shaders in the geometry pipeline, will be in DirectX 10.

Expect when vista comes out with Direct X 10, that new graphics cards will come out that fully support DirectX 10.

Yup afaik the current crop of cards are DX9 cards really, they will probably support most things in the DX10 api but not everything, i'm waiting for vista before my X800 get's updated (and yes I know that could be years, but meh I can play all the latest games at 1280x1024 so what's the point in upgrading eh)

Some of us still need to update to x800s, not from x800s.

I finally found something my pc can't cope with adequately enough - gt legends race with 25 cars Need a job soon to get an upgrade.

Heh I'm really going to bite the bullet and stick with my rig as long as poss now - I've decided. My computer can still handle many games at very decent detail levels/resolutions, but I want to upgrade where the performance jump will be more collosal and satisfying Patience is the key

Well I don't think I can be bothered to get vista unless I really need it for something, I've heard it looks pretty disappointing, not worth £200 for the upgrade at least.

Play with the public beta 2 when it comes out and see what you think I have a few of the official builds, and while in my opinion the current versions are no-where near as nice as the early alphas (which had way more in the way of visual effects, and still had winFS) it is still a sizeable jump up from XP, even for a basic use perspective with the nicer interface and updated core apps (explorer, ie etc). From a technical viewpoint there are plenty of other reasons to go for vista, far too many to list here, but some include EFI support, LDM drivers, Integrated DX10..You will however need a decent graphics cards (x800 series+) to be able to run most of the fancy visual effects, and I expect you will need a DX10 card to fully take advantage (although it looks pretty good on my hardware at the moment, it is supposedly going to get better..)

A bit OT i know but it's still partially relavent
