KOTOR II Black Screen?

Just installed KOTOR II, wanna play this great game again.

ive started it up 2 times now, both times t makes a crackling noise from the speakers, then it sits there on a black screen.

Using drivers 6.1, card at stock speeds, drivers on quality, A.I on normal. 1600x1200 85hz, high detail?

Anyone got any ideas? Oh i also pathced the game fully using the update thing.

I think KOTOR 2 had major issuses with ati cards try searching Lucas art forums and oblivian forums for more info.

Maybe its a conflict between the refresh rates? i.e desktop is at 100, and i set game to 85 as thats the highest it will do at 1600x1200.

Can we assume that you've attempted looking at the troubleshooting section of LucasArts, and that you've applied any available updates? Have you tried the latest catalyst drivers (6.3).

You can determine whether or not it's a refresh issue by setting it via dxdiag. Go to the "more help" tab and click on the "Override" button. I would enter a value of 60 to begin with.

have you actually attempted to run it at normal resolutions like 1280@1024 etc? the game doesnt really benefit much visually for overloading resolutions to max.

Do you still get the sounds from the menu, ie if you mouse around?

If so it may be a dual core problem - I had something similar with KOTOR1 if I tried to run the game using only one core rather than two (but using buggy nvidia dual core drivers). I've not heard of the issue from ATI owners before, but make sure you haven't disabled a core and possibly try rolling back to an earlier driver that doesn't have any dual core optimisations.
