    Annyoing controller issue...

I currently have 2 USB game controllers. A joystick and a gamepad (Saitek X45 & P2500). The stick is permanently plugged in at the back of the PC, whereas the pad is plugged in at the front whenever it is needed.

I want to play NFS:MW, so I plug in the pad. I make sure that in the controller options in Control Panel has the pad set to the preferred device, yet whenever I load up NFS, it always goes for the stick and refuses to accept the pad (before I had the stick, the pad worked fine with the game, so it's not a duff pad or anything).

Anyone have any ideas what I can do to get the pad as the number 1 controller? EA support is crap, so I don't want to bother with them, and I really don't want to be crawling under my desk to plug/unplug my stick all the time!

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

    Doe NFS support multiple controllers?
If it doesn't I would guess that's your problem & that the PID for the joystick is lower than the pad which is why it's taking precedence in the game.

Easiset solution would be just to unplug the X45 when you want to play NFS so perhaps get an USB hub that could sit on your desk or front USB ports?

Disable the joystick in the device manager then, and enable it when you need to use it..

Any way of altering the PID number?

I've thought about disabling the device in DM, but the X45 installs 4 or 5 devices (to emulate the keyboard and mouse) in total, so I don't know which ones I'd have to disable, or if anything would go wrong if I disabled certain ones but not others. It'd probaby be quicker to unplug it, but I'm too lazy to get out of my seat .

Well, I'm just thinking off the top of my head here (using Linux live cd - HDD buggered), but if you go to the control pannel and go to game controllers, it will list all your game controllers in there (obviously ), and isn't there an option to 'disable' it?, or turn it off or something like that?.

How is it plugged in? Maybe you should buy a converter for USB?

There is a "Remove" option, but how would I get it back? If it would mean unlugging/re-plugging, then that defeats the point.

Looks like there's no easy solution, and I'm gonna have to feed the cable round to the front to plug it in when it's actually needed.

    Ah well.

Well you could remove it, and when you want it back click 'add', and it should be in the list as the drivers will still be installed.

Little bit fussy, but better than getting on the floor and fiddling with the cables round the back of the computer.
