    Question Halo for the PC

Is this exacly the same as the Xbox version in terms of content? If so what were the people smoking that said it was the best game of all time? granted its a good game but it aint that good, to me it looks like unreal 2 with monsters from MDK2.
Looks like someone has gone mad with the shiny DX9 graphics as well, overdone it way to much imo.
the mouse movement is a pain in the ass as well, far to sluggish.

    Whats everyone else's thoughts?

Good game, but as you said mouse does feel a little sluggish, also all the levels with the flood are a pain in the ass, since they keep repeating themselves and become very repetive.

Yeah its pretty poor, started a thread when it was released if you look through the gaming forum you'll see it. Me and Trashman done a few benchmark timedemos on it and the results in general wern't to good at all.

Like I've said previously. Wish I hadn't actually bought it

I had a play of the beta version and was surprised how ugly it looked, I've been waiting for Halo for ages and I know it takes more than gfx to make a good game but it looked like the HL engine. Was this just the beta or is the proper release the same?

I quite enjoyed it when I still had the X Box but now with the PC games getting really good its looking really dated. One thing that did spring to mind after starting to play it was the size of the Crosshair, Its huge ! Thought they may have made it a bit smaller and accurate for PC players as games like this thrive on mouse control and accuracy

ok game, but u can just feel the console in it. Loads of problems - the slow mouse thing is a bugger, the gigantic crosshairs r stupid, and too repetetive (levels - the library and the 1 after that).
pretty average game really. Good story but failed in most parts. Lets hope Halo 2 with be an improvment and that it comes out on PC!!

If you want to fix the awful mouse acceleration thing:

Make a file in your Halo directory called config.cfg, and simply put in it:

    mouse_acceleration 0

Then in the properties of the game shortcut after the path to it, put -execute config.cfg

    Et Voila

Its a direct Xbox port to PC so looks like crap when played on a half decent system. 2.8C + 9800pro was slow as hell :/ and AA/AF didnt work so it looked like crap. AI and levels werent bad actually although it felt like you were going through the same old levels time after time after time, but story made me finish it but it was totally let down by how it played.
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!

I never played it on the Xbox but I did enjoy it on the PC although it's very power hungry.

    Average was 44fps and thats with a 2.3 AMD and a 9800Pro

Living and dying laughing and crying
Once you have seen it you will never be the same
Life in the fast lane is just how it seems
Hard and it is heavy dirty and mean

Good game just too much system sapping for not good graphics.

Granted my 9500 (modded to 9700pro) is not the greatest card on the planet but it runs CoD miles (and I mean miles) better than Halo, and graphics are miles better (again I mean it).

They got the port right just a shame they couldn't make it playable.

I have a Barton 2500+, 512 Mb Crucial Ram (Barton & ram at 333) and a Rad 9600 Pro card and my system runs everything perfect except HALO in 1024x768x32 with detail set to max.

    Its a poor port over

Its a console game, it should have stayed like that.
The engine is pretty poor for the PC when compared to the Unreal and Quake engines. Although its bump mapping abilities are nice

Xbox Halo as a single player FPS was a good solid game, but where it really took of was cooperative play, and then multiplayer. If you haven't tried either of these then I can understand your contention that it isn't the world-shaker it was touted as. However, if you do get into these modes (don't know that the PC version has them), then I believe you'll see what everyone is talking about.

Honestly, only recently me and 15 chums hooked up and played 16-way multiplayer - absolutely amazing fun. Eventually the numbers dwindled as the evening rolled on, but even with 6 players Halo is great stuff.

Halo truly is a great game.
