    Aliens Vs Predator 3...

So, is there any word of Alien Vs Predator 3 (PC) being in development?
It’s been 5 years since AVP2 was released and what wouldn’t I give for a third installment in the series.
Imagine the dark/sinister corridors of the Alien hive and a horde of Aliens behind you tail. The agile Predator hiding cloaked behind his thermal shield, or the high-tech marines with their powerful weaponry.
All that powered with the Doom3 engine!
    That would be so cool!

    AVP2 is one of my top 10 favorite FPS. I got way back in 2001, when I upgraded my PC (Pentium 4 1.8GHZ CPU, 256MB & a Kick-Ass GeForce3 Ti500)
I was completely shocked with the awesome story line & great Sci-fi plot Gameplay & weapons were top-notch. Graphics did not shock me as in Unreal two years earlier on my trusty 3dfx voodoo II, but it’s gameplay that counts in the end of the day.

For anyone that has never played AVP2 before, here are some memorable scenes from the game:

I’m not a great FPS fan but here are my all time favorites:

    My Favorite FPS
    =================

    Aliens Vs Predator II (PC)
    Alien Breed 3D I (AMIGA)
    Dark Forces – Starwars (PC)
    Descent (PC)
    Doom (PC)
    Doom II (PC)
    Doom 3 (PC)
    Duke Nukem 3D (PC)
    Half Life 2 (PC)
    Heretic (PC)
    Hexen (PC)
Hexen - Death Kings of The Dark Citadel (PC)
    Hexen II (PC)
Hexen II - Portal of Praevus (PC)
    Unreal (PC)

    What’s yours?

Is Deus EX any good by the way and when was it released?
I’m more into old school non-linear FPS action titles.

    Doom 2
    System Shock 1/2
Dark Forces 2 (comes number 1 always)
    RTCW
    Deus Ex
    Unreal
    AvP 1/2
    Half-life
    Sin
    SOF 1/2

Those are my faves that stand out to me. They are the games that I can still remember the opening seqeunces the ending/s and the story. All the others I've played just lacked the wow factor. I never liked Duke3D I know

But your right my list also includes AvP. Bring on another one I say!

Edit: Yep Deus Ex is a fantastic bit of RPG/FPS fun. Stay clear of Deus Ex 2 though imo. If you like Deus Ex you'll almoost definately love Vampire Masquerade which uses the Source Engine. Also since the developers went titsup the game can be had for a Fiver :-)

To tell you the truth out of the 12 FPS listed, Duke3d is probably the worse of the bunch. I just mentioned it because it was hell of a lot better than the modern overpriced lame excuses of linear FPS that you get ripped off as you can complete them in one single weekend (Unreal 2 comes to mind! If you exclude the Cool Boss fights, this one is probably one of the worse FPS ever)

I've heard mixed opinions about Deus EX 1 though.

Basically I've been told that the plot was hokey and the enemy AI was exceedingly lame.
Also, somebody said that it is not that old school, (As I like my FPS).
You start out with a tiny number of bullets, and the game is supposed to be boring in general.

I love the hub system in Hexen 1 & 2 & the maze like level structure of Heretic & Doom.
Doom 3 was an excellent modern old-school FPS that had most of these elements.

Half Life 2 had the massive continuous world level structure of Unreal 1 which I loved (Unreal levels were continuous & felt as if the were linked. Great feeling indeed), but it was missing the exploration factor that made Unreal 1 so great.

Deus Ex 1 was a cross genre game, an FPS with a pretty strong storyline, RPG elements and crucially, different ways to play the game that actually had an impact on the story.

For example. One part of the game see's you trying to break into a big, secure building with regular patrols of guards who shoot on sight. What do you do? You could (for example, there are probably more ways to do it)

    a) get out your big guns and take the building/guards head on, wiping them all out and run through to the top.
    b) take out the guards one by one, making it easier to get in.
    c) kill no-one, and sneak in through a (locked) air vent, or move some boxes etc to get to the roof
    d) a combination of all those

It gets far more specialised too - depending on where you have spent your experience points. You might have increased your hacking skills for example, so you could hack the security ports to disable alarms/sensors/guns - or use the guns to kill their own masters (the guards). Or you might have excellent lockpicking skills to break into buildings. You could have incredible weapon accuracy, or stealth (silent walking or the cloak plug-in)

Can you see the amount of depth this game had yet? It was great, and still is if you can get it working on XP.

Compare this to the second version...eww. Second one had a poor poor engine, terrible interface and it lost half the originals features. By by to the XP system, the bio-modding system was simplified immensely, your inventory gets simplified, you no longer have the subtle choices of how to play the game, instead you are effectivly given a fixed number of options. The reasoning behind these changes? Because it was developed for the Xbox, and the developers wanted to make the game accessible to console users. So all the PC-friendly Xbox unfriendly features went..

    anyway back On Topic

AvP3 would be ace, I wasn't a huge fan of AvP2 (hated the lithtech engine tbh, just didn't have the same atmosphere as in AvP) but it was still a good game, they have to make a third. Just so long as they don't ruin it as they did with the *shockingly bad* film.

I'd love that to happen, but Doom 3 engine? No ****ing way, I won't even buy the game if they use the Doom 3 engine.

    Easy man!
Technically Doom3 is the best 3D engine at the moment & Doom3, one hell of a cool game!
Awesome atmosphere, cool story line, excellent graphics & the nice Old-School FPS gameplay that made the genre famous in the 1st place.

So, AVP3 with Doom3 engine would rock, consider the similar dark/sinister feel of the AVP story line.

I doubt it. There'snot enough interest in the franchise anymore, though you never know if AvP2 does well at the box office, FOX might license another game.

AvP2 was a dam fine game, but the oringinal was better IMO. It was a dam sight scarier, and the MP was awesome.

I dusted off AvP2 a few weeks ago, and it still manages to give me the willies when a face hugger jumps onto your face!

I can't get AvP to work, unless I revert to an earlier driver version of nVidia drivers (pre 70 series).

Ah Aliens versus Predator was a classic, it was the first time i'd started playing online games properly on mplayer and since its time, i have been with the same clan. AvP2 was awesome story wise and i loved being the little face hugger being born into a xenomorph.
