    BF2 video settings

I have 6800 GS AGP, when running BF2 my vidieo settings have to be on medium so i dont get any jumping/stutters etc...Does this sound right for the card i have as I've heard that a 6600GT can run at high settings.....??

It depends on the resolution as well.

Sure a 6600gt can run it at high settings if the res was about 800x600

Just mess around with the settings and find out the sweet spot for performance. Download fraps and just keep looking the fps when you get loads of people on screen escpecially other humans.

Probably does not help but my x800xt runs at 1280x1024 everything on high and at the moment on 2x AA but i think it could probably go higher, i have not tried.

Im saying this because iirc the GS is like a GT and a GT is just a bit behing an x800xt

BF2 @ default says 800x600 @60Hz, everything on Medium, AA off and view 90%
This seems very low for this card ...the top cards out at the time were 6800GT's and Ultra's so shouldnt this run be running @ higher settings....???

I was going to say RAM, as this game is very memory hungry, but realised you have 1.5gb like me :/ I used to get plenty of stuttering at 512mb but when I got 1gb more it ran away

I'm running it on a 256MB 6600GT at either 1280*1024 or 1024*768 (probably 1024*768 just cant remember) with everything set to high but with no AA. But I do have 2GB of RAM which probably helps a bit.

    a) offline/online?
    b) what drivers are you using?
    c) is anything running in the background?

I run @ 1280x1024 with everything on 'high' (no AA or AF tho), and online is great, offline can be a bit laggy to begin with... (using 6600gt incase you hadn't guessed )

I know lots of people say that the video card matters the most, it probably does, but i noticed a large difference going from my P4 2.6C (o/c to 2.75Ghz) on an 865 chipset, moving to an Opteron 146 (o/c to 2.6Ghz) on an ASRock DualSATA2.
1 GB RAM, GeForce 6800 stayed the same.
Resolution went from 1280 x 800 to 1440 x 900 and settings from mixture of low / medium up to almost all medium.
    Gameplay remains smooth.
Goes to show that the video card could have done more before, but on my P4 if i increased the settings it couldnt cope!

So really my P4 is a load of **** and is making my 6800GS **** aswell
but then again you were playing it at better res than me and with a lower P4 and card
maybe i should buy a 6600GT 256 cause this 6800GS seems to be a waste of money ATM

Hang on - you arn't playing using the recommended settings are you???

You NEVER play anything using recommended settings - it's just not done.
At the very least, looking at your system spec, you should be good for 1024 x 768 with all medium. Just make sure that AA is no more than 2x ("low" i think). You'd probably even be good for 1280 x 1024, although maybe drop a couple of game effects.

I have also used the 'ULTRA HIGH' hack and get 50-70 FPS online (but have other problems)

I've done a lot of tinkering with this game. This is what my conclusions are. High settings, no matter what your system will cause lag and "stuttering" during large online battles (40+ players).

    Terrain detail / Object detail:

Set to medium, you will barely notice a difference on High.

Lighting - Medium (this affects stationary shadows, ie shadows buildings cast, no noticable improvement by setting to High)

Dynamic Lighting - Ie light when you fire your gun - highlights nearby objects. Set to low or off to gain performance if necessary. Increasing the level just increases the distance at which it will be applied from your current position.

Dynamic Shadows - As above, but shadows cast by vehicles / men

    Textures: (System memory hog!)

LOW - Best if you're limited to 512Mb RAM and 64Mb/128Mb Vid Card
MEDIUM - Best for 1Gb/1.5Gb RAM and 128Mb Vid Card
HIGH - Best for 2Gb RAM and 256Mb Vid Card or above (i.e. if you have 2Gb / 128Mb vid card, do not use this)

If you have 6600GT or equivalent - Resolution limited, recommend 1280x1024 max with 2xAA and Low/Med AF and medium all over settings

If you have 6800GT or equivanent - Res can handle 1600x1200 and 4xAA Med AF, Medium settings and High textures (assuming 2Gb RAM)

    My system

    Opteron at 2.7Ghz
    Radeon X850XTPE 256Mb
    2Gb RAM - 2225 timings
