Hl2 install error

Every time i try to install HL2 i get this:


Is it the disk? i cannot get it to install now for months.

Yeap - looks like the media is either defective or the Drive is having issues reading it.

Can you not go to steampowered and download then login to steam and download the game that way bypassing the need for the media install ?

i would also recommend Lee's idea

download it through steam

you dont need the disc as long as you have registered the game with you on steam (you wont even need to install it from disc once to do this, just click 'register a game i already own' when you are in the steam main console thing)

Last time I tried to install it did the same thing to me for some reason.

I'm not *too* bothered though as I just download it through steam.

the hl2.ico is part of counter strike installation so install CC and all will go fine. I had exactly the same problem. hope this helps

You have to install CounterStrike too if you're installing from disk.

I had this problem and installing CS:S helped me pass and complete the install without a problem.

Thats stupid, i don't want CS. Ah well cheers guys, now i know in future.

Easier & faster way....

Get a virtual drive program if you do not already have one. Rip the disc to your drive, and install that way. Solved my installation problems.
