    PS3 Thoughts

I know not much info has been released regarding the PS3 buuuut just wondered... after all "fan boy" comments and other random comments not all really being in Sonys favour to much are you guys still goin to consider buyin one on release or shortly after?

I personally am going to get one as soon as possible, With the possibility with a FF7 remake that has kinda made my decision for me.

yes, for one reason - i have a ps2 and fairly sizable back-catalog. i dont wish to have 2 consoles under my telly, so i'll get a ps3 on release day. I dont mind taking the hit on depreciation - compared to pc parts its nothing

Well I'm getting one whatever. Maybe shortly after release, after the initial hype and bugs have been ironed out.

I'm still getting one.. No doubt, esp with Tekken 6 or possibly Tekken Tag Tournament II down the road...

Not a Sony fanboy, but a self proclaimed Tekken fanboy... If Tekken goes to Xbox360 (which I highly doubt), then Xbox360 gets another customer..

As for now, PS3 never looked more attractive.. As long as PS2 sticks still works.. Or else I'll have to get a PS3 enabled fighting stick..

I don't think boycotting Sony for its anti-consumer policies has anything to do with being a fanboy. It just doesn't make sense to support an unethical business model. I think that if enough people stopped buying Sony products and cited anti-consumerism as a reason, Sony might say something like, "Gee, maybe we should stop treating our customers like crooks."

The other reason I would not buy it (sans my Sony boycott) is that I don't see anything new here. Better graphics? Yes. So what? After you watch the rippling water for a few seconds, it's back to reality--you have to play the game. You will get the same experience from an older console. If the only innovation we see in the gaming industry is a graphics improvement, the ultimate goal is pornography. I'll stick with my old consoles until I see something innovative. It could be on the horizon from Nintendo (too early to tell).

I'll definitely be getting one. Not too sure whether I'm going to bother getting one at launch or not -- if they've rushed to get them out then I wouldn't be surprised if there were some major design flaws -- but yeah, I can't see any reason not to get one.

I'm a self-proclaimed FFVII fanboy, but I can say without a doubt that it's not the rumours of a FFVII remake that are swaying me in my decision; I couldn't care less if they remade FFVII and am of the opinion that they'd probably mess it up with a remake anyway. There's really nothing that they need to change, so it'd be the same game with a graphics update and thus a waste of money.

However, I disagree rather strongly with what smtkr said... Yes, it's just another console with better graphics, yes, it doesn't really offer anything particularly innovative. But surely the same argument goes for upgrading graphics cards? All you get from those is the ability to play games with better graphics -- or play existing games faster -- which is basically the same; if graphics were of no interest to anybody, why would we not have just stuck with the old 2D consoles of yore?

The fact is, whilst you can get the same feeling from playing an older console -- the same emotions expressed and whatever you personally associate with playing a console game -- you're not oging to get the same games. If you want to play the newer games that are released, completely ignoring the graphics issue, you're going to need at least one of the 'next-gen' consoles. That's why I want a PS3; for MGS4, for FFXIII (most likely), for all of the other sequals that will inevitably be released.

But if you want to sit there and cuddle your Playstation, replaying the same 25 games over and over again, rustling through bargain bins in an attempt to find the one last game you haven't played to death, then go for it.

The last console I owned (well technically still own!) is a Sega Megadrive. So I guess its time for an upgrade! Just been playing stuff on the PC, but a PS3 would be nice. I can understand lots of peeps not wanting too seeing they still have a PS2 or whatever.

However the majority of popular games will be on the PS3, and at least it will be a year before they bring out something new to replace it, unlike a PC which is nearly every 3 months in some cases!

Well, not to start a war or anything.. Isnt Microsoft the same? Nintendo has their share of those ethics shyt during the NES days..

If Sony's going down for bad ethics.. then Microsoft will have to go as well..

I wouldnt have said so, If they do make it change ANY part of it yea it would pretty much ruin the whole of the game I have to say but a waste of money on a full un edited remake IMHO would "sell like hot cakes" I have to say that with the friends and randoms ive talked to 80% of them said they would defo buy a PS3 and FF7 remake if they do release.

It certainly wouldn't be a waste of money for Squeenix, that's for sure.

Even though I said it'd be a waste of money, my love for FFVII would probably win me over and force me to buy it, you're right. But probably only if, as you said, it was completely un-edited. If they tried to put in extra side-quests -- say, finally give the player the ability to revive Aeris (...LOL) -- then I'd probably not bother. I like the game too much to have it ruined by a stupid attempt at injecting the game with new life.

But that's just my opinion, obviously.

I won't be getting one. I know this will stir a lot of arguments but seriously, what will it do that the 360 can't? Slightly more powerful, maybe, but that won't stop cross-platform developers making games for the 360. Rumour has it that MS has pumped a load of cash in the direction of Rockstar to get an exclusive on the new GTA for the 360, another reason less to get a PS3. Admittedly GT5 is looking very hot, but that's not enough of a reason for me to part ways with a few hundred quid - bring on Forza 2!

Will probably get one at launch depending on how a few things work out.

If the 360 is flying by then, with plenty of quality games I might not think its worth it.

FF7 remake would seal the deal.

Pricing will be an issue, I wont buy it if the price, due to the Blu-Ray drive and the like, is pushed up too far above what the 360 launched at.

Do sony hold any rights over FF7 ?
Yeah, it was released on the PS2, but with the FF games coming to the 360, is there any reason why FF7 wouldnt appear on the 360 to ?

i will be attempting to steer clear of it for 3 reasons:
    1. I have little or no money
    2. I dont play as many games as i used to
    3. I dont support Sony's business practices either.

However GT5 combined with a cheap(ish) deal on a ps3 may weaken my resolve, afterall it worked with GT3 and the PS2
