Oblivion on less than top end

OK so we know how the thing looks on duel core 7800gtx machine with 2gb of RAM, but how are people finding it on a slightly less hardcore machine? Like a plank when I had the chance to i only upgraded my graphics card to a gto2 so while i meet the reccomend specs im not sure how accurate they are. Im running an athlon64 3500, 1gb Geil Value, GTO2 at stock (it ran Quake 4 and Doom 3 no problem so its not even unlocked to 16 pipes yet!), on a 17" inch flat screen. as long as I can play at 1024*whatever with a decent set of options id be more than happy. How does it play do we think???

I can play it with pretty good settings on an Opteron 146 @ 2.6ghz, 1gb DDR400 and a 6600 at 630/720. I get a solid 60fps indoors and 30fps outdoors. The lowest FPS I have had is ~20 when I was fighting a few different goblins for a quest. I am using these settings:

    Resolution:1024x768
Sliders set to 40% on all options except Spectral Lighting which is set to 20%
    Textures:Medium
No shadows:None for any of the shadow settings!
    Water:Medium
    Reflections:On
    Ripples:On
    Blood Decals:High
    4xAA with Bloom

You'll be fine - it'll run really well on that card at mid settings probably. If you unlock it it'll run at high settings with a bit of tweaking. The only thing you'll miss is HDR which isnt' supported on that card, but bloom is very fast compared to HDR.

The recommended system specs are actually 100% accurate. You will have a great game experience if you meet the recommended. There's a lot you can tweak both in game and in the ini file. When the official forums calm down from the hysteria they'll be a good source of info.

Well i went and bought it yesterday. Only played a tiny bit so far in the sewers but it ran acceptably on medium settings. Might need to tweak them a bit when i get into the open world though. I think my specs are gonna be some of the lowest here.

Thrustrating thing is I have a 9800pro my friend gave me to use for now, but i can't get the power cable disconnected for my 9700pro (i know it wont be a massive leap but every little helps and its free )

I'm running it at 1280x1024, on my spec on the left, and with the detected medium settings, and it still looks amazing.

You still have to put the data into RAM from the hard disk - it doesn't get there by magic!
