If god had wanted me to fly, I would have wings.

Oh this flying lark... what an adventure it's turning out to be

many a time I've installed IL-2 for a quick flight when bored with playing the usual games I tend to play, but woah be tide me if I can get off the damn floor. Maybe its down to the fact I've not got a 1/2 decent joystick, and I'm having to use keyboard but the highest I've probably got from the runway is about 16 feet before the engine screams like a bunch of 13 year old girls at a Mcfly concert, and the nose dips lower than lidl's prices.

Last night for example, I was having one of my episodes where no matter what I did I could not sleep so I fired up IL-2 for a bit of fun. What a mistake that turned out to be. I think I spent more time looking at the "loading" screens, than on the runway and even more time looking at a pile of smoldering rubble after crashing into the ground. I think the longest I was in the air for and flying was about 12.38 seconds.

Now, years ago - I used to be a dab hand at the F-16 flightsim I had on my older computers and whatnot, but get me into a plane thats build with wood etc and requires praying power to get off the ground and I'm as much use as a chocolate fireguard in a sauna.

So - before I get a joystick, should I just pack it in, uninstall and go find a more modern simulation, or should I "stick" with it and pray that one day I will fly a plane in IL-2 and actually land it as well.

I might get the Evo as I can use it in BF2 as well - [EDIT] Oh well, it looks like that plan is now scuppered - out of stock

I've never even attempted IL-2 online as I am truely ashamed of my landloving skills. I could be classed as that severely fat pidgeon you see in the town centre, the 1 that is unable to fly more than 5 feet without landing and looking for leftover kebabs.

Righto matey....Get a stick, get teamspeak, get hyperlobby and stop n00bing around in single player

Have you off the ground in 10 minutes flat, no problem, have you swooping like a bird in 20 minutes. Then at no extra charge MA_Daks wing removal service, with a side order of smoke and flames.

Landing well that takes weeks, thats why Oleg gave us CNTRL E

Edit Marlins have a met tonight in Hyperlobby see forums at ma-squadron.co.uk, ill have a dogfight server up for a bit if you can get sorted by then be good to see you

Yes. All that did was make me hyperactive for about 10 seconds and then proceed to have a sticky top lip for the rest of the night

Oh thanks for the offer - most kind of you sir, but tonight is my night where I proceed into Manchester and drink copious amounts of sugary carbonated vitamin enriched drinks with a hint of vodka, and dance like the loony Zak33 thinks I am till 6am tomorrow.

First thing's first - I need equipment to fly, so its off shopping for a joystick I go

You could never hope to fly the sim with a joystick. It also helps if you can appreciate the basic principles of flight. Being a plane nut when I was younger I was up off the ground and flying around happily the first time. Landed it the first time round too.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
