    Nintendo Revolution Specs Revealed

I know it is a few days old news but here are the specs

    729MHz IBM “Broadway” CPU
243MHz ATI “Hollywood” GPU w/3MB texture buffer
    24MBs of “main” 1T-SRAM and 64MBs of “external” 1T-SRAM

Looking forward to see how they will compete with PS3 & XBOX 360 with these specs. One thing seems for certain, it will be the cheapest out of the three

Xbox 360 competes with 3x3.2ghz, lol

Basically the revolution will be crap, but will have a shed load of old games and a few new ones, its 1.5X faster than a gamecube, so expect current Xbox graphics on the new games, lol

specs dont mean anything if the games ain't taking full advantage of them.

As Nintendo have said - they're not in the same 'race' as the PS3 and 360 - they're heading off in a totally different direction. Whether it will be successful or not is another matter altogether, but you just can't judge a system by numbers.

Even if the revo uses all its power it wont be better lookin than the 360 games out now tho due to their power and the lack of nintys HD - having that said

360 will never have a game of gameplay value anywhere near the first few zelda games, no matter how much they pay

I think the Revolution will be a great console to have side by side with an Xbox or PS3... I believe thats what Nintendo are thinking too.

Rumours are of a sub £150 launch which would put the console in a lot of homes imo.

Well, if I want great graphics.. I'd play it on my PC with a beefy X1800XT.. If i want gameplay, Nintendo and earlier PS2 hallmark gets my vote..

Actually inclined towards 360 for a while.. but figured it would just be totally inferior to a well tuned PC..
    Me want Ultrabook

If you can get the games

Revo might even be 99 quid :| Probably more likely a 130-149 price tho

I had that in mind too. Money talks as they say and ps3 & xbox360 feel to much like same thing.

*ALL* of the sources are actually linking back to an article by one guy at IGN who hates nintendo, and his unnamed "industry sources"

we know that the revolution isn't as powerful as the 360 or ps3 - nintendo have said so repeatedly, and tend to state "2-3 times faster than gamecube" - but it isn't trying to be an HD powerhouse. without the HD requirement, the required horsepower drops considerably. don't forget the major architectural differences between the gamecube and 360/ps3 designs, too - cell is gonna disappoint outside of a benchmarking situation, and the 360's high clocks should be compared to those on a p4 - meaningless.

nintendo have been making a point not to over-hype specifications, because it's largely meaningless. the oft-quoted maximum polygon counts in the last generation? ps2: 30m; xbox: 150m; cube: 6m. the highest recorded in an actual game was on the cube, at ~12m. the installed user base of the ps2 dwarfs the xbox and cube. most profitable system? nintendo are the only ones who turned a profit. most popular of nintendo's "weird" ds and sony's powerful psp? the ds, by a huge margin

nintendo have been entertaining people for over a hundred years, don't sell them short

For those who are sceptics of the Revolution's power, just think of another of Nintendo's current consoles, the DS. Whilst the graphics compare to an N64, and the PSP compares more to a PS2, the DS sales in Japan and europe are still greater than the PSPs. In Japan the margin is pretty huge.

Its about how you present the games to your market in terms of gameplay, accesibility and originality that grabs most gamer's attentions. If you just rely on graphics to sell you a game then you are unfortunately quite shallow. Although smooth and creative graphics are always wanted, they don't necessarily have to have 2 billion polygons to be effective.

i find the revolution actually intresting, their input device is ment to be rather novel for the console market. Its good their not entering the MIPS or FLOPS race, instead, innovation.

i think that NOT going with hd was probably the right move for now.. the vast vast majority of tv sets are still sd, and i think it will remain this way for some time to come - particularly if you bare in mind that (complete guess) 50% of ps2s probably sit in some kiddies bedroom - they're not going to get a £500 hd set up there for the forseeable future, when you can get a 14" tv for £50. sure, for those that have an hd set the crispness of the picture will be nice - but unless you sit real close to the telly you wont notice the difference so much - you're probably 2' from a computer screen when you play games, but 6-10' from a tv. my hd set is set up in my bedroom (26" set) about 10' from where my face is, and i struggle to see the difference, at that distance, between an hd video and a normal res one.

Mhz doesnt mean that much anyway as the AMD/Intel CPU battle shows, more work at lower clock cycle speeds isnt a bad thing.
Also if Ninendo dont go HD route then they dont really need a device with much more "grunt" than the existing gamecube. Its more about innovation than mhz.

Direct Hex is 100% right. Nintendo do things with games that make some other companies roll over and give up. They are masters of some things.

Mghz is nothing to do with life in consoles either. If I could explain the sheer power of a current Game Cube, I'd try, but I can't. Suffice it to sat that it has less system memory than my calculator, and looks like heaven, plays like a dream and make me smile everytime I use it

    Here found old gamecube details:

    Specification Description
MPU Custom IBM Power PC "Gekko"
    Clock speed 485 MHz
    System memory 40 MB
Main memory 24 MB MoSys 1T-SRAM
    A-Memory 16 MB DRAM (81 MHz)

24 mb and 40 mb memory architecture and 485 mghz. Go find a PC that runs that spec and then run Metroid Prime on it

I hear people say that but what I think Nintendo are really thinking is "lets come up with the craziest idea and flog it as originality"

Jeez if all it takes to be successful is to come up with completely different ideas then every company would be doing it.

The Revolution is more a kids toy than anything else. I f I wanted to play kids games I'd head down to the arcade and jump around like a fool trying to get the high score. Yet kids stuff will still sell as of course there is of course kids out there and some grown ups who think by playing with Nintendo they are being part of the "real gamers" club but infact Nintendo have had there day.
