Bloomin' PC games, they're too cheap :)

I've had an Xbox 360 for a few months and have been waiting patiently for the time when you could go out and have a choice of decent quality games.

Well, it seems that time is now but to complicate things I've just got a new PC and I'm finding it very hard to justify paying £40 for a game again.

From various websites (but not Ebay) in the last few days I've bought UT2004, Far Cry, MoH Pacific Assault, GTR, Pro Evo 5, Max Payne 2 and a couple of really oldies but goodies in Archer MacLeans pool and Sim City 3000. I appreciate these are all older titles but they still don't look and play half bad.

All for the same price as one 360 game

I'm still glad I got my 360 but my PC has made me somewhat of a tight git again

I suppose it makes up for the somewhat beast of a price to build a high-end PC in comparison to a far cheaper console with brute power. But once you got a PC its all good from there

the reason 360 games and games for other new consoles will be expensive is because they are what makes the profit for the companies, you will probably have read else where that microsoft and sony will mak quite a loss on each console sold, at least untill the start making cost down versions.

Yeah, I know, I just thought I'd have a moan

I don't think they make as much of a loss out of me buying consoles as they should though

The 360 hasn't yet plummeted in price the way electrical goods usually do after I buy one, although I did get slightly stung by having to buy King Kong with it

On the flip side I remember standing outside Dixons on PS2 launch day, £500 of readies in hand. Idiot !

Just wait three months and then you can buy almost anything for £10 pre owned round my way.

I know it's not the hardcore gamer life, but in some ways I prefer to play a game after the buzz has died down (*he says, eyeing up his unopened Oblivion on the shelf*) (lent my 360 to my cousin for his easter hols!)

aye 360 games priced are a bit silly to be honest....

you have to laugh when people are paying £18 for the pc release and £40-50 for the xbox 360 version.

im holding fire on the 360 till i can get pro evo on it

Problem is, its not the publishers / makers that are to blame that much, but the retailers taking us for a ride knowing its a new format

Fathazza, even though I had it on PS2 I actually watched Ebay for days trying to get a copy of PE5 for the Xbox just so I could play it on 360 The thought of playing it over Live appealed too.

Second hand copies were going for £20ish so I ended up buying it for my PC instead for £15 new from Game and I can play that over the net !

    It's still a good 7-8 months before we'll see 360 Pro Evo so £15 wasn't too painful.

I shudder to think how much PS3 games will be...

If they made the 360 games cheaper then there would be no point in buying the xbox versions.

Consoles are not as cheap as they first appear

It's not that expensive for a good gaming PC. You just need a decent graphics card say 7900GT and a half decent CPU. A cheap motherboard, HDD and some value RAM to complete the job. PC games are priced about right imo.

The total cost of ownership I expect is higher for the console and the loss leader tactic is a good business model at the expense of the consumer.

I refuse to pay console game prices and the money saved I can afford to upgrade my PC hardware. Avoid the temptation for high end builds and stick to the best bang and the PC is very good value.

For a PC that can play games up to standard of the Xbox 360 you are talking more than £1000 for the £800 you save on the console that pays a fair bit towards the games price difference. Also you get the benefits of much tighter testing and quality control and zero effort in getting playing, no installation, no worry about drivers versions, etc and as every goblin knows "time is money friend". In the end there problably isnt much difference in the overall costs.

Paying £40 for any game is a bad idea. We'll just have to see if Nintendo delivers on some of its promises. The Revolution, as we know is supposed to be the cheapest, but I've also heard that games will be cheaper. I'm not a hardcore gamer. I only need something that I can sit down and play in my spare time.

The reasons that i am going PC-only are price, upgradeability and customisation. And graphics aren't too much of a concern, there are always new graphics cards..
