    Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter

I just wondered what everyone thought about the game! It has been highly anticipated...but from the reviews looks a bit weak in gameplay terms? Maybe im wrong! Oh and has anybody managed to max out the settings on a 256mb GFX card!!!

I tried this game for a brief moment. Wasn't really my thing, but what really annoyed was the fact I couldn't max out the graphics, the highest option I had for textures was medium and to be honest it looked poor on medium.

The thing is I have 2 x nVidia 256MB 7800GTs in SLi so I should easily be able to use high textures, I do on every other next-gen game. I think it might be to do with some AGEIA Physx driver (which I'd never heard of until I installed this game) you 'HAVE' to install to play the game.

Yeh I tried the demo on an X1800XT and the graphics were dreadful! I think something was wrong :S the trees looked like sugarpaper cut-outs!

well, its not that bad.. you'll have to look past them trees.. I know they look dreadful..

The rest of the game looks very nice, abeit the painful lack of AA, the draw distance is imemnse.. the buildings and HDR works well.. but I hope they add a little bit more colour the wolrd.. than the very very boring yellow glow..

That aside, the game is a fine piece of work.. but its not everyone's game. U like to rush.. not ur game.. Are u hot headed? yes?.. then this is not ur game.. will u feel like running towards ur enemy the minute u get hit to seek revenge? yes?... then this is not ur game.. Are u a heavy drinker? yes? ... no this is not ur game either..

This game excels in the way that it makes u think of ur current situation.. and act swiftly yet conservatively. U'll get punished HARD for trying to be rambo. And every mistake u make now, will have a detrimental effect on the stuff happening later. Every move requires careful thinking, careful planning.. but not snail time response.. Do that? And you'll get rewarded with a victory... dont do that? just like in any realistic warzone.. u die... and you'll bring ur teammates with u too..

I feel this game is suprisingly forgiving sometimes for its vouch as a realistic military themed simulation. Firstly, 8 magazines is ALOT of bullets.. and add that with assorted small arms.. ur pretty much a walking arsenal. Also.. the game lacks the element of fatigue.. and the enemy AI is a little weak at times... add FEAR's AI to GRAW and use a BLOODY engine that works with AA.. then u get urself a perfect game for hardcores..

No you don't, uninstall the Ageia drivers and the game still works, for me anyway.

Even with 2 256mb cards you still get 256 usable video mem and not 512, sux eh?

Ah ok, I didn't actually try.

When you say only 256MB is usable I'm guessing you mean for this game since I run Quake 4 on ultra settings and that requires 500MB?

What about the appalling AI? It's all i can do to stop my men 'pathfinding' their way past machine gun nests and standing in the middle of the road getting shot (without shooting back). The command 'follow' equals 'suicide' - as soon as i'd working out to avoid it and use 'cover' instead i lost less of them per mission. I also felt it was a bit dumb of them to shout 'SIR YES SIR!!' type stuff when you're sneaking round at night and trying to be stealthy (ok the enemy doesn't hear but it does nothing for atmosphere).
I also hate the fact you've got 'satellite' footage of the whole war zone but it's completely useless for scanning 'ahead' as enemy soldiers 'pop up' on the map only once you get near them (seemingly out of nowhere).
Mind-numbingly dumb was when i finished a mission and was presented with a screen that said 'next mission' on one button and 'main menu' on the other. Normally, you'd expect the game to save the fact you've finished said mission when you click main menu - didn't seem to be the case for this game tho (so i had redo the mission from the last autosave).
Overall tho it's got enough going for it to keep you playing regardless.

I think it is really poor tbh, weak game play i played it for all of 5 mins and had no desire to go back, and truth be told it "IS" my sort of game ... sorry but thumbs down for me

I dont know about anyone else. but it just seems really slow, as in im running and it feels like im on an eculator that going in the opposite direction ...

    Far far to slow ...

Hmm, don't know tbh. Possibly using system memory as video memory?

It is supposed to be slow paced.. I suppose you dont go rushing into enemy gunfire.. and obviously if u want to walk with a valid crosshair.. u cant move all that fast.. thats why u have the 'run' key..

Just as long all ur decisions make sense.. and you dont do silly things.. everything is going to be fine..

I'm told it runs really pooh on nVIdia, and ATI might be the only way to get it to play fast.....dunno if that's true.

Well, technically you cant comprare it with GR1 as they're almost totally different. Each with their own merits. But GRAW kicks ass when you compare with any tactical shooter since Raven Shield. The latest R-6 doesnt count as it was bollocks.. R-6 Vegas might be better..

Well, having played this all weekend, I'm still loving it. There are things that I love, and things that on reflection are not actually that bad.

Performance wise I'm happy, no major patch yet, and I'm having a fairly smooth and stutter free experience with all settings on medium and filtering on tri-linear. I've also got sound acceleration down to basic as I can't tell the blimmin difference anyway . The only noticeable slowdown is in the first 10 seconds of every mission, nothing to get shirty about. (My system is a 2.8 P4 D with a 6800GS PCI-E and 1024 DDR2)

I absolutely love the graphics, the lack of AA is strange, sometimes its very noticeable, other times it isn't (particularly in Urban combat where much of the surrounding structures are vertical and don't require line smoothing so much) but again, isn't hampering my enjoyment.

My AI squad is a mixed bag, sometimes they will do things that make me laugh out loud in amazement , sometimes they do things that have me awestruck. LAst night I peek around a corner in mission 3 VIP to catch site of a heavy MG nest, which instantly opens fire and nearly takes my head off. I'm wondering how the hell to deal with this thing as it is camped out at the bottom of an alleyway, when suddenly my Sniper walks up behind me, peeks around the same corner, and BLAM - target eliminated

On a downer it has crashed twice and caused my PC to reeboot into safe mode which a game hasn't done for a long time :S, but above all this I'm having a blast with it, (nothing beats a well placed grenade in this game - especially when it sets a car alarm off to boot )

Yar I totally agree with Mr. Skii, I hated it in the demo, but when I got hold of it I took the time to learn how to order your bots about effectively and its probably better than the original.

I'm not going to lie to anyone here, it MAY take getting used to as its not the same type of shooter as the likes of FEAR and is WAY more tactical than the tactical elements of HL2.

As with the graphics thing, I'm sure theres something a lil' config hacking couldn't fix, what bugs me about the game is the inconsistant length of the loading times which in my experience can range from a nippy 10 seconds to a rediculous 40+ surely something a patch could fix but meh, I love it!

The AI bots are also in my experiences so far rather iffy and unpredictable at times sometime running out in the middle of a firefight getting killed outright or other taking the initiative and holding from a safe distance laying down some suppressing fire in an attempt to allow me to flank etc.

Its also an evily addictive game as well, I'm only midway through the second level and its already eaten a day of my life whole, its been a while since a game did that (FEAR / HL2 being the most recent).

If you're still unsure, get the demo or better still, get the originals which should be downright cheap these days.
