Nintendo DS or PSP, Help me decide :(

    Hey all,
My birthday is next week and so I have decided to treat myself to one of these, but the problem is I can't decide between them.

I will be using this on my way to work in the morning (30 min train journey) and, if possible, to listen to music.

Any feedback from people who own one of these would be very much appreciated.

Thanks to anyone who helps me out with this decision.

    Leon.

    Edit: Added a poll.

    don't ever buy hardware.

buy software, and the accessories needed to use it.

in this case, that means "don't ask about PSP versus DS, ask about the games"

in terms of games, the PSP is mostly a home to half-arsed PS2 ports or rehashes, with a few original & fun games like Lumines. the DS has a few more quirky titles, and far fewer straight ports. the PSP has other uses like music, but i can't say i've used them.

look at the games available for each, pick out games you like the look of, then buy the console on that basis, not the other way around.

The DS is great for Nintendo only titles... Metrois Prime is great (other than the utter pants save system) and Brain Training is brilliant!

The PSP has good software support too, though it's only really worth it if you fancy playing PSP versions of PS2 games... which is fine if that's your bag.

Sure, the PSP does a lot more than the DS but the DS has a better 'pick up and play' games catalogue.

Ignore the 'store music and pictures on your PSP' stuff... I don't know ANYONE who uses it for that. You can encode your own movies to MemoryStick though, which is pretty cool.

Best thing to do is find someone with a DS and PSP and try them out.

I keep my music on not 'so to say' store as its all on my system at home anyways but do use it as a sub mp3 player for my travels and the film side of it ROCKS

Depends what you like. PSP is more 'portable version of same games from big brother', where as DS is more like 'fun games in their own right'.

It's all about gameplay with the DS, and I think I'd get annoyed with a PSP - I don't want to see cut down versions of games I could play better else where.

I have to say it is quite strange using this big thing for music I should have got an actual MP3 player, would have been much cheaper and better off but hey i cant suft the net on a normal MP3 player hehe

    *EDIT*

Remove Net (from suft the net) and add in Pr0n... ^ ^

I don't have either, but being a huge fan of the Mario Kart series, that alone would be enough to sway me towards the DS.

I think I'll pick up a DS Lite when I get the Wii.

Thanks all for the useful comments, they have helped a lot.

After taking DirectHex's advice (went and had a look at the games) I have decided on the DS - some brilliant games, that I am going to love!

    Thanks again all

I'd hate to hijack your thread, but does anybody happen to know when we'll see the DS Lite in the UK?

I want one too now hehehe

Also, the new Mario looks fantastic : http://mario.nintendo.com/
