    Oblivion difficulty

I've been playing on just under normal difficulty for a while now because anything over that is insanely difficult to do - does anyone else find that putting the diff. up to 75% is just insanely hard (i mean it's supposed to be, but most other games at least give you a chance..). Anyone got any tips/tricks (i find the main problem is how long battles take even with really small enemies)?

the problem is with oblivion is that every enemy NPC's abilities are scaled by your level, so every battle basically becomes an epic struggle (except, mabye mudcrabs)

Can be a bit silly that game. I think the trick is to create your character so that the skills you use MOST often, are not selected as primary skills... As you only have to level the primary skills a few times to go up a level. This way your fighting/magic skills increase more, but your level stays low, so all the creatures don't get continually tougher as you level up.

This is a silly way to try to play and 'enjoy' the game though, I don't like the thought behind it... You'd probably be better off going to the Oblivion Mod forums and looking into a "levelling mod", which are meant to make the game more fun. By keeping common enemies around the same level, and only letting the boss-like fights scale to your level.

The mod forum on the official site is here: (in case you haven't been there yet)

Best tip is to either adjust the difficulty to the level that's the most fun for you, or use one of the many level scaling adjustment mods.

You aren't cheating anyone to adjust the difficulty, and by default it assumes you are levelling in skills that have the most affect on your combat ability and are constantly getting the best equipment you can. So just adjust the slider to match your fun (I have it a few clicks left of default for one character, and a bit more for another)

Yeah, thats mainly what i've been doing, dropping the diff., but as i said, you shouldn't have to drop the difficulty just so that an Imp doesn't take half your health off

how much each stat goes up when you level is dependent on how much youve increased the skills that that stat governs during that level, if that makes sense.

But yeah, the level scaling is pretty daft, pretty stupid that a level 3 mage can be champion of the arena.
