    Command & Conquer package

This weekend, i decided to buy two copies of the C&C package (the one that includes all the games) - in the hope that i would be able to set up multiplayer games across my network.

Unfortunately in my naivity - I assumed that the developers would have done some re-jigging to allow network play on the older games across a modern network....

PLEASE DONT BY THIS PACKAGE IF YOU FANCY SOME OLD SCHOOL NETWORK FUN!!

    £60 wasted!!

Unless anyone has any tips as to how to get C&C to think i have a normal network card instead of insisting on me having an IPX network??????????/

surely the easiest thing is just to add ipx to your protocol list? its all of about 10 clicks, including opening control panel

    That would make sense....

I admit i did try adding IPX to the protocol list, but my PC had a benny and Explorer hung....

    So then i gave up!!

How difficult is it to configure from there? Not having done any networking prior to Windows 2000???

I have managed to have network games with all of the C&C games in that package excluding the first two.

    To Add IPX:-
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then Open Network Connections.
Right-click the LAN Connection and then click Properties.
On the General tab, click Install.
Click Protocol, and then click Add.
Click IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol and click OK.
Think a restart might be needed? Maybe not.

I brought two copys of the Decade pack for networking too though.

Now for the good news. There is a patch availible that allows network gaming for C&C and RA. C&C can be done via LAN and Internet, and the Second (RA) Can only do Internet games, when using this patch.

However, I have forgotten where the link is. Pretty sure its somewhere on the Hexus forums or my email? Will post when I find.

    Edit: Here we go...

patch for networking teh first 2 games (not tried myself yet):-

The thread where I found it, a post by me?

Have tried Generals Networked, RA2, and TS, and I still play Renigade Online alot. Not a bad package really. So definatly not £60 wasted!!

Windows x64 does not support IPX?!? Thats just stupid. Note to self not to upgrade then.

2 copys for £60 seems about right really. Maybe you could have got it at £25 each, but otherwise for what you get, its not bad.
