    Budget Gaming Laptop

    Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum and am posting to get some advice. Over the last few weeks I have been looking throughout the net, aiming to get a decent gaming laptop for about £1000. I am willing to go a little higher but the max is £1200. The best deal I have found so far is the FSC Amilo xi1546 with folowing specs:

    Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Technology
    Intel Core Duo Processor T2400 (2MB L2 cache, 1.83GHz, 667MHz FSB), Intel® 945PM + ICH7-M Chipset, Intel® PRO/Wireless LAN 3945 802.11a/b/g
    - 1024Mb DDR II RAM
    - 100GB SATA Hard drive (5400rpm)
    - Multi-format Double Layer DVD+/-RW drive
    - 17" WXGA Widescreen crystal view TFT display
    - ATi Radeon X1800 PCIe Graphics
    - 4-in-1 flash card port (SD/MS/MMC/MSPRO)
    - Intel PRO WLAN 3945 a/b/g integrated wireless LAN
    - 4 x USB 2.0, 1 x IEEE1394 Firewire, TV out
    - 3 hours battery runtime (depends on usage)
    - Windows XP Home Edition operating system
    - Microsoft Works
    - 12 months collect & return warranty

It cost a £1000 form Nice Pc at the following web address:

    http://www.nice-pc.co.uk/amilo_Xi1546_1024_100gb.html

Note: I have seen some benchmarks for this laptop, at another laptop forum (NotebookReview.com Forums) and it scored 5689 on 3DMark05, 3152 on 3DMark06, these can be seen at:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...t=amilo+xi1546.

These are very good values for a laptop at this price.

note i also like the dell xps m1710 but the best price i have found for the lower model is £1233, which is still a little to expensive for me.

can you guys suggest anything else or do you know any ways of getting dell discounts.

You can get 15% or 22% cashback (not sure which, as the wording is slightly ambiguous) if you buy an XPS through http://www.quidco.com/dell/

I've used them to order PCs before, and the cashback's nice to have.

Are you a student? Either @ uni or school/college?

Look at the macbook Pros (www.apple.co.uk/ukstore) and see if they fit the bill - but as a student you get big discounts, 8% if your at school and more than that if you are at uni, ring apple to see whats the best price they can do you

Macbook Pro is a better machine than the dell or amilo, although might cost a few quid more if you spec them identically..have to ring apple and see really

Better machine for office work no doubt, but he's looking for a gaming machine, and I don't think the macs come with anything better than a X1600 chip.

Better for most things as you can use OSX and XP Your right about the chip, but an X1600 should be more than capable being a budget gaming laptop..

Thanks for the advice guys but the amilo xi1546 has a ati x1800 while the dell xps m1710 lower model has a nvidia 7900gs. These both destroy the x1600 which is more of a mid range graphics card and does not really have the power I'm looking for. As for the Macs there ok, but far to overpriced for what they give.
