Thinking about buying Oblivion.
Can anyone recommend it?
If so, any good deals going on this?
Cheers guys
Yes I can definately recommend it
Any deal is a good deal for the value in the gameI don't know of any special deals, you could browse the usual suspects. I will for this once plead that you do actually buy it from a retailer - the devs deserve to get all the money they can from this as we need to show there's decent support for PC RPGs, also as it's co-published by the developers themselves, they are seeing a good cut of the money, rather than some bloated publishing company.
Im in the same boat thinking of getting it but not got round to not sure it will run well on my pc etc etc tho people tell me it should be OK. It seems to be keeping its price well on the high street HMV still have it at £35 or there abouts, but if you look on CD-WOW u can get the normal version IE. not collectors edition for 19.99 which sounds pretty good to me! Think that is with free delivery as well so cant complain, if i hadnt lost my mp3 player yesterday i would have probably got in a week or 2. The bottom line seems to be if u like rpgs and have a decent machine and dont mind the slightly strange level system (which u can mod anyway with the PC) then you should enjoy it
Sorry quick edit after seeing below post, the 19.99 price is for the PC version of Oblivion didnt even think about consoles when i posted

shopto.net have it for £29.99 on 360
My brother has it, never really appealed to me. However, I started playing it today and I must say after you get passed the start (with the emperor guy) it starts to get good.
Damn wolves have made me jump a few times when they come from nowhere!
get it, nuff said tbh
Yes (and fancier packaging)Originally Posted by FatalSaviour

But yeah, it's a really really good game, and it looks like your system will be up for it as well.
Trust me, Oblivion melted my graphics card when I tried to play it on a 9600 PRO.
Question: Did you ever play Morrowind?
Recommend it very highly indeed.Originally Posted by FatalSaviour

Get it buddy, I've clocked up several days of ingame time on it and I'm still not bored.Originally Posted by FatalSaviour
Worth playing, looks fantastic indoors, outside environments are pretty good too, however, I still prefer Morrowind, the leveling system for the enemies really spoils the game for me. You lose the sense of progress that you had with morrowind, leveling up doesn't help you at all, in fact, it makes the same places harder than they were before.
Mods are the best part of any TES game.. and there are literally hundreds of levelling tweaks - one of the first, PFM's Levelling Mod is still around i believe, and it works quite well.
Graphically, it's a damn good game (even on my crappy fx5700) and the AI is something to admire - just wandering around listening to random NPC conversations never ceases to amaze me!
Yeah, i agree about levelling up - i think that there should be places that you just don't go to until you level up, cos frankly, you can do all the oblivion gates still at level one by just not improving your primary skills. The good thing about MW was the way that the enemies didn't really change - it was all probability based (which is what most of the levelling mods introduce, very low prob. of high level enemies when you're at a low level and vice versa) so that you could in theory find a Golden Saint at level one.. in which case you would run like your ass was on fire, or.. if you had played differently and found some really nice enchanted armour, you could take it on head to head (even at a crap level) and reap the rewards.
However, the quests in Oblivion are exceptionally done, especially the Thieves and Dark Brotherhood (assassins basically). Although the main quest isn't quite as long as i would have liked (it's not short by any means), you can make up for this by doing numerous side quests - many of which involving bizarre circumstances like going into paintings, dreams and other strange places (the way the game is structured makes for very flexible modding).
Overall, well worth getting.. except the whole pay for mod system which is slightly faulted because the content is hardly protected..
Is there an actual aim to the game other than just adventuring, levelling up and doing random quests? I'm a big fan of 3D adventures games of old (Zelda: OoT, Little Big Adventure, Banjo Kazooie etc.) and more recently Beyond Good and Evil and Psychonauts. I'm all for exploring but I like to know that I'm working to an end and will eventaully complete a game... is Oblivion for me?!
