Worth playing if you don't have the original...but DoD source is a bit pants in comparison to DOD (mod for HL1)..just doesn't have the same pace or feel ;/

EVE - Online ( TiMeZeRo225, Proper Emo, Facter )
World of Warcraft:
Eu:The Shattar ( TiMeZeRo )
Eu:Shattered halls (Pakapunch, Sigari, Eitu)
CS:S - TiMeZeRo
DoD is a bit more non stop than most other fps games, especially on maps with a central battleground. You re-spawn quickly after death and its usually a quick run back to the action. Some servers have unlimited timers, so if you don't cap the map, you just keep fighting. Its commonplace to have 30 minute battle for a single flag. Can be knackering due to the lack of breaks.
I play as Flibb{OwP} , usually on UK 32 player servers. Favs are band of beavers and da-uk and die with your boots on.

No its not a contradiction. "Start paying" implies that there will be additional fees for content. Unlike BF2, dod-s hasn't charged for extra content. Personally I like the fact that dod going commercial gave some of the mod team a job and money, other seem to begrudge paying £12ish. If somebody does become addicted it makes it a good game for them and well worth the price.
When dod went commercial the amount of crying and moaning, on the dod forums due to have to pay for a previously free mod was astonishing. People acted like they had some kind of god given right to play it for free, and for it to be updated with new maps, better graphics etc. They couldnt see that it going commercial gave at least some of the volunteers a job in the industry, and some payment for their hard work.Originally Posted by directhex
Personally it going commercial and at a cheap price was one of the best things that happened, I purchased it pretty quickly (also purchased red orchestra to support it). Worst thing was the demise of OwP, maners on servers and general teamplay have dropped a lot since OwP vanished. Although I did see Elrond (OwP head bloke) her a couple of times. And I just got called all kinds of nasty names on a server for wearing owp tags
For those not aware, the Online Warefare Pact was a group with aup to 8000 members that tried to encourage fairplay, teamplay and a code of conduct in online games (mainly dod). They had many clans affiliated to them, which tended to have extremly good admins, and where teamplay using coms was encouraged. The big problem was that anybody can shove tags on and arse about, so conduct was hard to police. They nearly managed to build a system to check OwP tags against the membership list, but it all went wrong in the end. Some of us still wear the tags and uphold the code, despite OwP folding in late 2004. They lasted 3 years, but many of the clans are still around that were members.
