ooooh, 512mb is going to hurt in BF2. I upgraded to 1Gb and that really helped. I've just upgraded to 2Gb to extend the life of my system. I've yet to try BF2 on 2Gb, but I fully expect it to further improve the game.

Lots of video RAM helps as well, in some cases more than having a really powerful GPU, at least thats been my experience. BF2 works well with GFX cards that have 256Mb RAM.

Definately the game engine isn't actually *that* demanding, in terms of raw power - but lots of vid RAM and system RAM as really important

Until to upgrade set the textures to low (Game will use about 300+Mb System RAM with low textures) put the other settings to low/medium...don't know your vid card or cpu so you'll have judge the resoluition

    X600/5600/9600 = 800x600 noAA (ouch!)
    9800pro / 5700Ultra + / 6600 = 1024x768 noAA
    X700pro/6600GT = 1024x768 2xAA
    X800/6800 = 1280x1024 (with AA if it's a pro/XT/ultra/GT)
    X1800/7600GT + = 1600x1200 with some AA

Rough guide ^ completely estimated, but I reckon that'll be quite close.

A lot of games at the min are actually running better on 2 Gb of system rameven though it is not on the recommended specs. However 1 Gb should do just fine for medium settings and detail. Make sure you get the 400 Mhz stuff also, wish I had got that instead of the 333.

I bought an extra GB of ram and it really helped, and shortened loading times!!
Can anyone help, whenever I try and set AA on I get a message saying Reload game to take effect, then when I reload it has defaulted back to no AA.

    Running X1800XT256

Have you got latest drivers etc installed and AA set to either app control or enabled in the control panel. Also is the game patched up to current build ?

Finally, I havn't actually got Battlefield 2 so this is a stab in the dark ! Does it use HDR at all, if it does and you have it enabled you can't use AA with HDR.
