Does anyone know categorically if games for the Nintendo DS are region coded? ie. If I get games from the US or Far East, can I play them on a UK Nintendo DS/DS Lite?

I know on the old machines they used to make the cartridges different sizes and shapes to stop use on different area machines. Whether this is the case on the DS I'm a bit unsure, however someone like Competition Pro may release a cartridge port adapter be able to play imports if that is the case.
deffo not region coded

True. I've got a USA copy of Advance Wars and I'm playing it fine in my UK DS.
Thanks for the input all - thinking of getting a DS Lite here (as its not much difference from Hong Kong - and I get the warranty etc) and maybe some games as my sister is flying back from there and the games do seem to be cheaper.
No region coding on either of the DS models (original & lite). I have purchased games in Europe, USA & Canada, all work fine on a UK bought DS.
Might need to get me one of these gizmo's after all
It's not region coded, I have a japanese game for my DS Lite, but I don't know about multiplayer. I think in general don't expect different region versions of the same game to work in multicard multiplayer, downloaded games I believe should work though.
Mario Kart USA wireless multiplayer works perfectly fine in the UKOriginally Posted by Hume
It should work, do you know if your wireless router is setup correctly for your DS as I know they can be picky about speed settings

I use the Nintendo wi-fi dongle for mine as I don't fancy messing about with the settings for my wireless router just to get my DS to work... not that I have any wi-fi compatible games at the moment having given my Mario Kart to my brother along with my old DS for his birthday (good excuse for me to replace it with a Lite )Another thing that can be problematic is the use of the DS with your router. The unit requires you to drop your router speed down to 1-2mbps. This can be an issue if you use your router for more than just the DS. If you have a wireless laptop, it can become bothersome to log in before and after each session to adjust settings.

I think it depends on your router. I know I can't get it to access my Linksys A/B/G router, while my PSP has no problems. The DS connects via the Nintendo wi-fi dongle on my PC with no problems on the other hand
