Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter startup problem

    Hi

Go this today, install went ok (including the PhysX drivers although not sure why I should be forced to install those)

Rebooted and attempted to start the game, got the first splash screen wish hard disk/DVD activity for about 20 seconds, then nothing Task Manager reported that GRAW was not responding.

downloaded and installed the latest patch (1.20), rebooted and tried again with same result.

It takes several attempts to close the process and slows the system to a crawl in the meantime.

Tried removing and reinstalling again with same result, applied the patch, again no progress.

Got latest release drivers from Nvidia and Creative amd tried tweaking everything (my spec is on the left)

Have raised the issue with Ubisoft support also.

Can run the Prince of Persia trilogy, splinter cell: pandora tomorrow and chaos theory and rainbow six lockdown on this system ok with detail etc at max so not sure whats wrong and have tried everything I can think of that I would use professionally.

    Anyone had any similar issues?

    Cheers

    Mitch

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter startup problem - problem fixed

    Hi

Just an update to this problem which I've managed to solve (Ubisoft tech support were useless, the only response they could come up with was to shut other running applications or try to run it in Windows 2000 compatibility mode.)

It turns out that the problem was related to the fact I had Data Execution Protection switched on for all programs.

I added GRAW.exe to the exceptions list and it started fine.

I can't play it online. I have to either have the internet disconnected or my firewall disabled for the game to load up. If I have either of these running the game locks up on the Ubisoft logo. Thankfully I'm not really into multiplayer so its no big loss.

Come to think of it Farcry done the exact same thing in the same place on starting the game. Quite bizarre really!

I'm using Norton, problem I have with it is that as soon as you start the game it pops up asking if you want to allow access, however GRAW tries to access as soon as the game starts up and not on the title screen making the whole system lock on the Ubisoft logo. Trying ctrl alt and del just brings up the mouse pointer and nothing else so its a hard reset. A lot of games actually don't access until the title screen where you can alt & tab to get back to the desktop and allow / deny it. I only ever have probs with the Ubisoft games, nothing else at all!

Have to see if I can add the GRAW exe file to the allowed programs list in the firewall and see if that cures it. No big loss to me really though.

turn the firewall off. imo norton is a great anti virus, but it is an absolute nightmare for gamers.
    avg anti virus
and any tailor made firewall should do it. [i use windows firewall lol].

    scrap the norton firewall.

I have had norton systemworks/av+fw 2005 running in the background along with probably 40 other processes when ever i play online games, for example ..BF2, GRAW, SWAT4 etc i experience no noticable difference if they are on or off in multiplayer games, although i prefer to keep them on for obvious reasons.
