    Xbox 360 Controller Compatibility

    Hello Guys,

Quick question here, I want to get an Xbox 360 controller for my PC but i was hoping to get it before the end of the week. Amazon have a "common" controller which seems to be exactly the same, but what i want to know is can i just buy an actual Xbox controller and just use that?

I dont think that there is any difference between the two bar software, but i can download that from microsoft already. Just want to know because if it'll still work fine, i will just pop into town at lunch and pick up one from gamestation for £24, which i think is more or less right..

    Any answers appreciated

    JP

Yep the wired XBOX controller would be fully compatible with a PC using the USB connection and Windows automatically detects the device. A few of the guys here already use the XBOX controller on their PC.

I just bought an Xbox 360 wired controller for the PC (theres a PC version which comes with some CD's I think, but yes it still works with the 360). It seems to work fantastically well, and the controller itself is very comfortable and well designed.

Went and bought one and was testing it out on a racing game briefly today and i must say that its very comfortable, and the triggers work really well. Pretty much all the buttons that you will need, BUT the only thing was that there was an annoying squeak everytime you move the left thumb-stick.

Its not mega loud, but now that i have noticed it, i just KNOW i will EVERY time i move the stick... I am going to try and exchange it tomorrow (already getting ready for strange 'You want to give this back beacuse of WHAT' type looks from the shop assistants, but i guess i am well in my rights (hopefully)

But yeah, downloaded the drivers and installed them and all works fine - but i definitely need a squeak-less one (God I'm fussy)

And I couldnt wait for the wireless one, so that means its going to be released next week now...

Well, finally got a new one, but this shop retailer (Which will remain nameless) decided to tell me that i couldnt get a replacement because "Its not a fault and that its just the way the spring beneath centres the stick". Hmmm...

To which i replied (And this was the MANAGER, who was telling me this) "Well, there are 2 thumbsticks on the joypad, which are identical and the other one doesnt make a noise does it..."

After a brief pause and more playing with the pad, the manager tells me that "Unfortunately its not a fault and and she cant let me have another because Microsoft may not pay for a replacement, meaning they lose money". She seemed quite proud of this explanation and waited for me to say oh,ok and leave or something.

So I looked at her, distinctly unimpressed with her BS and just waited. Cue eeiry silence and after a while, she went off and phoned someone. Finally came back and told me that they would "Do me a favour" and change it this time, but i had to go to another shop to get one, as they only "Had one left in stock here" - I was getting a bit annoyed at this point as I was missing my Friday work pub lunch because of this but in the end, it was all fine... But I'm never going back there.

    End Rant

The wireless joypad adapter was featured in the July issue of the Official X-box 360 Magazine (as was a wireless headset). I'll try and post a scan of the page later on. No release dates yet though.
