    Prey - opinions

So who got their copy of Prey then? Mine showed up yesterday (care of Game, they also threw in a free copy of Serious Sam II, not bad).

Been working from home today and had a quick blast, good fun. Looks really pretty, makes good use of the Doom 3 engine. Im playing on a 7800GT and have everything maxed out at 1280x1024, shifting along pretty nicely. Game play seems pretty balanced too, I guess we're going to see quite a lot of this adaptive difficulty setting stuff. Well worth the money - the missus is out tonight so I'll give it a thorough thrashing then.
What we share with everyone is glum, and dark...

Borrowed it from a friend yesterday morning as they are away for a week or so. Love the way the music changes to the Blue Oyster Cult song Seasons (Don't fear the reaper), I had been looking through the music selection and it wasn't there but as soon as the lights start it kicks in, awesome !

It runs extremely well, I can run it in 1024x768 and high detail and no stutters whatsoever, also using an 80 series driver for the 6600GT card I have. They have done some major optimisation to the Doom 3 engine. I do feel it looks a lot like a cross between Quake 4 and Doom 3 however.

I did feel a bit dis orientated after running up the first few walls, but it is so origional being able to do this in a shooter, adds a whole new perspective. From what I have seen of it so far I am very impressed, love the organic weapons also. When you go into sniper mode with the first gun you get you see a thing extend from the gun towards you, freaky but superb. Took me a while to work out what to do with the exploding balls (ooerrr missus ! ) but adds a little thought to what you are actually doing.

Yeah. Quite impressed with it really. Running quite nicely on my iMac at 1280x1024 2AA 2AF, which I'm quite suprised with. The X1600 isnt exactly the cream of the crop as far as gaming goes, but its holding up quite nicely with most of the games I'm playing with the majority of eye candy on.

Im really enjoying it, seems devilishly long though heh. Wait till you get to the spaceships.. they are a giggle and half, enemy shoots, you fly to him, pick him up with the tractor beam, drop him from a great height, or throw him/use him as a shield... its all good

It's not supposed to be very long at all.

Iam enjoying it. Seem to get stuck a fair bit, which is a nice change, i usually beat FPS's easily.

As is Fear, Episode 1, Quake 4, Max Payne 1 and 2, COD. Most modern shooters are shooters, which sucks.

Not really too fussed about the overall time it takes to be honest. I'd rather have a shorter game that I am utterly compelled to finish, rather than plod out a longer one, which has been padded. Obviously, a long compelling one woulf be perfect...

And lets face it, I dont know about you guys, but since I stopped being a student, i dont really have as much time as i would like to play games and fit in all the other important stuff in life, so I dont really mind the short games...

...but back on thread - yeah, hoping to get my copy soon, loved the demo and thought it was ok, but not really mind blowing, maybe i just need to do more of that spirit walking - loved that concept!!!

Well the girlfriend took me over to Amsterdam for the weekend for a birthday suprise and whilst there she bought Prey for me Since getting back I fired it up and off it went full details and maxed on a 7800GT AGP card and the game flies, the story is great, good gameplay and doesn't seem to have suffered the graphics overload and a shoddy gameplay experience. Half way through at the moment but loving this game. Best FPS I have played since the days of Quake 2 and Tribes

Just completed this, despite its length, its utterly fantastic. Very very good, and some amazing graphics throughout that manage to keep a high frame rate still Hurrah! Some really clever puzzles, and I have to say, some of the best level design I've ever seen in a game. They really did make good use of gravity and such, and the ending is pretty cool too.

Multiplayer seems a blast too, but I keep getting my ass pwned from upside down people I never spot, need to get my head around that lol

I have had a go on the 360 and tbh it made me feel very sick with all the strange moving around. Good idea for a game though.

Amazing graphics and sound on the 360
