Is halo any good on the pc

I borrowed it for my old pc a while since but it wouldn't run on my old FX5200 and later a 9600XT so i gave up, now i have a decent PC is Halo worth trying again?

    Thanks

Erm, depends what sort of thing you like. I thought it was ok, and if you have it kicking around it's certainly worth a romp for a bit, but I didn't think it was the earthshattering game that a lot of people seemed to think it was.

I think the Halo game is very good BUT as a Multiplayer based game. You can't beat a bit of Multiplayer Halo action! Be it on the PC or Xbox.. it's great!

..But the Single player just doesn't cut it for me. Yeah it was quite a good game and has a story to it, but I much preferred loading up the game and playing online against a group of mates rather than trying to complete the game on SP.

Its a decent enough game single player, however it was quite a poor port over from the X Box at the time. It suffers lag in the same places as the X Box version did and there is nothing different from the origional version.

It is a decent enough blast though, bit of a no brainer but fun regardless and it does have a decent story. Make sure you patch it up to the latest build once installed, if you browse the installation directory there is an auto patcher utility there to make life easy.

I would say go for it, you can get it really cheap now and it will keep you entertained for a few weeks at least.

it was designed for the xbox and as a result is better played as a console game than a PC game. however it's still pretty good on the PC. and xbox or not, the storyline is pretty epic

i thought that the SP game was okay, story was good-ish, and the visuals (at the time) were quite good - however, nearing the end of the game it became really repetitive, in that you could get repeated corridors over and over and over again. it seemed that tthey were put there just to lengthen the game...

...Still, when it was varied, it was good. vehicles were nice, as was some of the AI at times.

Yeah, all the circular shaped rooms and bridges that you had to cross. Very samey. Mind you Quake 4 did the same towards the end going up the 3 towers.

you'll find it hard to find a game that doesn't have some essence of repetitiveness to it to increase the length. except, of course, the mighty HL2.

I felt even on Half Life 2 some of the sections were a bit lengthy. For instance the bit on the powerboat I felt went on a bit, when you got back to the city with the flying razors started to feel like it was drawn out a bit and towards the end of the prison felt like it was never going to end.

Same goes for FEAR (which I personally preffered over HL2) the office blocks went on for ages.

Like you say, most games do seem to be drawn out on some of the levels to give them that little extra life, HALO is like that most certainly.

When you get bits like that I do them over 2 nights to alieviate boredom that starts setting in. On HALO I went through the tunnels and done a few sections of the circular rooms and done the rest the following night. It is an addictive game all round and it made me chuckle seeing the small covenant shouting uh oh grenade and flapping their arms, its even funnier if the grenade sticks to them and they run around in circles whilst the others run away !

It's quite a lot of fun in Single Player. The A.I is pretty dam good, there are a good selection of choices for difficulty. the vehicle parts are awesome, an you get to fight a lot of baddies. the weapons aren't bad, but only having 2 is crap IMO, and spoils the game.

The level design can be very tedious and boring, it's the same crap over and over a lot of the time. The outdoor levels are good though.

It's on OK game - worth the 10quid I paid for it but not much more...

It's better on the PC than the Xbox, as you have a KB and Mouse, but as has been mentioned it's a poor port requiring a (what is now) mid-range PC to play it.

To be honest it's not worth worrying about, there are plenty of games that do the brainless FPS thing better that you can have for less money that don't need the same specs =)

The best thing about halo is Red Vs Blue No matter how boring I found halo1/2 to be, red vs blue gives them a reason to exist..

that simply isn't true. while the majority of FPS games are better on the PC because of the level of control you get with a mouse and keyboard combo, the weapons in halo are designed to allow effective shooting with low-accuracy (i.e. a controller). and while it is true that halo was originally in development for the mac (which would have used mouse and keyboard control), microsoft snapped up bungie very early in the development to put it onto the xbox, and there is very little (if any) that remains of the mac development. i have heard many an argument that it was originally designed for the m&k control, however fact dictates that these arguments are mute. the pc port has had to up the accuracy of the weapons marginally and remove any autoaim that may have existed, and the number of enemies has increased slightly to make it more playable on the pc. it works, but at the end of the day that wasn't what it was designed to do. this isn't a bias statement on my part, as there are very few FPS games that i would prefer to play with a controller than a mouse and keyboard.

haha...what a rant! the one good thing about purchasing halo for the pc is the fact you can download halo custom edition (halo:ce) and play that online with the same cd key, and that is a really good multiplayer game and worth the money.

    hey its just my opinion

To me it doesnt matter how it was designed - its how it plays thats important. I find it incredibly difficult to accurately play FPS games with control pads - many people find it easy or like it..each to their own an all that

sorry i made it sound like my view was the definitive answer, when it was meant to be my opinion but i have found that that's the general concensus among frequent xbox/pc gamers.
