Hope my 9800 pro can play nicely! (handles Oblivion OK, so this should be ok...)

It's finished downloading so I'm going to try it now.

Edit: Ouch!, runs terrible on my system. Guess I need a new graphics card

I think this will run terribly until Vista

How big is the demo file?

I downloaded this last week and I have to say it's a touch glitchy.

Firstly it seems to hate SLi, it simply freezes when you start a mission.

Even without SLi there seems to be some graphical errors, for example there is a mission where the land didn't load up so everything was hovering above water.

Obviously this is just a demo and these things 'should' be ironed out upon release.

What it does have going for it though are the graphics of the aircraft, they are very detailed and look good, the landscape (when it appears) isn't fantastic texture wise, but there is a lot going on on the ground e.g cars driving along the roads, boats moving across the water.

Well mixed impressions from the demo.

The water is nicely coloured. That's my main impression! The reflections aren't all that great, but the colouring is lovely. The hills are nice as well.

Initially I thought the texturing was really bad, with very obvious 'detail bubble' and mip mapping, but as soon as I enabled AF that problem disappeared and it looked much better. AA is also required pretty much.

The virtual cockpit is brilliant - gives a very good sense of the movements you actually feel in a plane - together with the wind sounds I could almost get the same feeling of movement as when I was gliding for real.

But the autogenerated scenary is still horrible - trees look like paper cut outs (two sheets in an X formation to stand up) and buildings all look like plainish boxes with no dirt/wear/poor textures - they really need to improve these things because they stand out like a sore thumb.

The Demo is very obviously beta with lots of things not right - I kept seeing what looked like ants running around before I realised they were shadows of cars - the cars weren't appearing, just their shadows. Interaction of objects with the textures is pretty poor as well - cars make sudden impossible changes of direction, buildings/roads go straight into the sea etc.

Performance-wise I was surprised - I basically set things to ultra-high and it was still smooth for the most part.

I love the textures of the runway when its raining, was quite impressed with that.

What did anoy me though was when i set the weather to stormy or something with heavy rain the texture of the water disappeared and just became a square of light blue.

But apart from the beta bugs I did enjoy the demo, as said already the virutal cockpit was impressive.

I quite like it however I do feel it needs a lot of work:
    - the time it takes for ground textures to load could be a pain. especially if you have imported something fast e.g. eurofighter. (might help if I had more memory in my system though)
    - It might just be my joystick, but for the life of me I cannot setup the POV hat-switch correctly as FS seems to see the switch as one switch. (if you get me)...
    - autogen, dynamic traffic, etc seems to really bog the system down when turned to full. a drop of about 30fps which takes me down to about 11fps which is well... horrible.
-When in the virtual cockpit of the CRJ I found that the screen was completely black until i went to "spot view" and went back to "virtual cockpit" Does anyone else experience this?

    on the good side:
    - flying a night is the best its ever been in FS they way the moon reflects on the water.
    - the option for light bloom makes coming into land that much more realistic with the runway lights.
    - Flight dynamics are as good as ever.
    - great looking aircraft textures.
    - great looking ground textures (if only they loaded faster, but like I say it may be my lack of memory).

I think a lot of the performance issues may be resolved when running the game on a 64-bit o/s and the introduction of DX10, but when we shall see this is another matter

Ill look out for any more issues or interesting finds as I find them.

Hmm I've not tried anything fast yet so haven't noticed any texture loading issues - it's all been pretty fast on the 2gb system. Will test more later. I've also not tried upping the auto traffic, maybe that will hit framerates.
