    first real 360 mod chip?

    just seen this:

Forget crazy dual mods with 30+ wires or even bricking your DVD drive by flashing corrupt/wrong firmware files. Your original firmware stays untouched and intact at any time when using the NME-360. There is no need for any firmware-reading or flashing.

Simply install the NME-360 with 4 wires for Samsung or 5 wires for Hitachi/LG and you are done...

    NME-360 - the clever solution:

The NME-360 autodetects the inserted media. If the inserted media is a backup NME-360 injects the necessary information to the DVD drive enabling it to boot smoothly ahead! If the media is an original game, or anything else, which doesnt require any further action of the NME-360 then it simply falls asleep so there is no need for an external switch whatsoever. This way it can not be detected online when you play an original onlinegame.
looks interesting..dont know if this has been posted before or if it really works, but if it does then microsoft have a challange on their hands...

Heh, it's a bit worrying that they've had to correct a couple of different wiring diagram issues that they made :-/

There are quite a few modding options available now but they don't appeal to me as I know I wouldn't use my 360 if I didn't have XBOX Live.

It is a pity that all the mods allow you to do is play pirates (some people do make legit backups but the majority don't) I would love to get a homebrew mod for media centre and some other bits

Its old. Its poorly built. You can do more via just Firmware flashing. Its a rip-off.

All the 'modchips' atm just seem to bypass the fireware in some form to use their own, seems crude and pointless. I want a modchip to allow me to install a large hard drive and put games on the drive along with some sort of media centre (ala original xbox), other than that what's the point.. there's only 2-3 games worth playing anyway so might as well just buy them!

It's such a shame that to try to stop piracy they have to criple the systme. MS is making a dev kit available for the 360 to homebrew types for IIRC under £100 but that's only for arcade type games and they are all still going to be vetted.

Getting an HD upgrade and a proper media centre on the 360 would be ideal - I run XBMC on my modded 160gb original Xbox and it's great. My HTPC was down for an upgrade, so I could still play everything (except HD) from the media centre. What with the 360 having the brute force to play 1080i content, and supporting that res, it'd be ideal.

There's no point in modding it for games - you can't play online (or patch the games?) without and original, and that's such a large part of the 360 experience.

You can play copied games on Live on both for original Xbox and 360 for a while now....
The 360 one will probably be patched at some point, but the normal Xbox has no chance.

Putting a modded xbox on live is a good way to get it banned.

Judging by the way greektony ended that sentence, i think "can" should have been "can't".

    Possibly?

At the moment you cant go on XBox Live with the normal XBOX if it has been modded, apparently though the newer firmware flashes you can

With the xbox 360 at the moment it is still possible to go on Live with a drive that has been flashed, however its only a matter of time before MS start banning consoles that have been flashed - providing they check the firmware revision of the dvd drive consoles I guess.

Im not going to argue with you lot, but you can play on Xbox live with copied games on both the 360 and normal xbox, without getting banned. Like i said, the 360 will probably be patched soon enough.
You just need to know how to do it.
If you Sunday Xbox hackers want to start screaming that im wrong - go ahead. Just do your research first. Heck, you dont even need a mod-chip to do it.
A good place to start would be xbox-scene.com
