    xbox 360 randomly freezing

My console keeps locking up. This has only happened so far with lord of the rings (one of the few 360 games that can hold my attention ). I have played the game for a few weeks without issue. Im just hoping its not a hardware problem. Anyone have/had any simmilar issues.

It sounds like a hardware problem. Contact Xbox and have a go at them.

Steve, is your power brick well ventilated?

May find that helps if it isnt.

*nods* try keeping things well ventilated and cool (stand the 360 up vertically) and see if that helps.

Cheers for the advice guys. I have had it vertical and horizontal with lots of ventilation (power brick the same).

The freeze ups got more frequent and last night it showed the dreaded three red quadrants on the ring of light Its now also crashing (with the red lights showing) after seconds of being turned on . Something must have popped but now its being sent to microsoft for repair anyway

This is all too common according to the bloke on the phone its more tempremental than a pc

On the upside you may just get a new one from them

touch wood, whistle and swing a black cat round my head, mine has been pretty good to me so far and it does get heavy use.

I dont know what my missus would do if it broke, she wouldnt be able to play uno!

Its played a LOT of games so far (mostly demos) but lord of the rings uses a lot of processing power (the game struggles along at 20-25fps in some battles). Hopefully they will replace whats broke and maybe put some better fans in- the cooling on these systems is next to useless. A lot of people seem to have bought the nyko intercooler fan attachment which seems to be a decent product (lowers temps in all areas of the case by about 10 degress) but i dont see why i should have to shell out because of M$ shoddy workmanship.

Hopefully it wont pop again when i ask it to play the no doubt very demanding gears of war.

edit: I got it from HMV £300 with ghost recon bundle. Cheers tho mate

Things are always the same with the first generation of a new system, both the PS2 and te origenal playstation had big problems with early consoles (dose anyone remember the early playstations that would only read properly when placed upside down?) You need to hold of 6-12 months normaly befor all the kinks are smothed out.

    Hi

Whatever you do m8-do not put the 360 in the vertical position.
Always keep it horizontal and raised off the surface it's on using something in the middle of the console area ( the air intakes at each end of the unit are vital for cooling )

It doesn't like being put vertically unless you have the correct stand and extra fans and even then it has bad airflow.

I've had similar problems but since following this -horizontal only- rule, i've been ok.

Once you fry the internals of a 360, get a replacement for MS-it's the only cure.

Hope this helps and you have better time ahead-

    Take it easy.

    Grafraith.

    Interesting

I had it standing up for ages but for the past month or so its been horizontal. I think the problem that was always there surfaced due to increased useage. Most of the 360 games (at the moment at least) are so dire they dont hold my attention for more than 1/2 hr but lord of the rings has me hooked for much longer...

Its getting repaired or whatever now anyway. Did they not test these things and realise the cooling was inadequate?

Are you sure it's not just a faulty game?
