oo a strategy game that involves war eh? may be tricky....
Total War Eras - Includes Shogun, Medieval and rome with there addons.
id prolly reccomend that as it must have a bajillion hours of playtime in it. unless you can be more specific on your requirements? realtime/turnbased? modern/historic/sci-fi/fantasy and all that gubbins
Thanks for the reply, i have medieval total war and didn't really like it, like the sorta war games like red alert 2 and yuris revenge but didn't like the newer one generals. Also games that you have to control a country and run every part of it inc. blowing up your rivals to bits games like that? also intereseted in any games themed on WW2.
You could do worse than find a cheap copy of Codename: Panzers Phase 1. It looks great and is quite a good RTS WWII game. Phase 2 appeals less as it's North African based, unlike the European theatres in Phase 1.
You could pick up the C&C decades pack for some classic C&C gaming.
If you havn't played it, Dawn of War is amazing, theres 1 expansion pack out for it now with another one coming soon.
Age of Empires 3, this is kind of set in early colonisation of the americas, I don't like the AoE series too much really though, bit repetitive aand gets old.
Warcraft 3 if you havn't got that, again it's not my cup of tea but alot of people love it.
There are a few great RTS games coming soon, a new C&C game that looks like it'll be good, and an excellent looking game called Supreme Commander. I think these arn't out till next year though.
For some country control type stuff you could try Civ4.
Blowing enemies to bits and Dawn of War scores quite highly.
Classic RTS and you can't beat starcraft+brood war :)
second kalniel with DoW:) fantastic game, we play it at LANS.
4 of us, one battle, 6 hours:D
im glad this post was made, i could make my own thread but im also looking for something simalar, i loved dungeon keeper but i like the challenge of playing things online, im a cs player but i want a break from it what u think.. has anyone played dungeon keeper wat kind of game is that??
I'd probably class dungeon keeper as a 'god-sim' class of game, although it's a pretty unique blend of god-sim and puzzle game IMO :p
did you liek it i thought it was one of the most imersive game si have ever played i could play it all day all night
Couldn't stand it :p Not my kind of game :)
I quite liked the following, some are old though...
C&C Red Alert
Starcraft
Warcraft 2 & 3
Warhammer Dawn of War 4000
C&C 3 Coming Soon looks awesome
I cant remember the name, but ms did release some good ones aswell. Based on romans etc.
age of empires rofl???
Rise of Nations - and a good call, I'd forgotten about that one, could meet OPs requirements quite well. As could age of empires for the more civ like gameplay.
AOE 3 is worth it just for cannons :P
Dungeon Keeper (and Dungeon Keeper II) has to be one of THE most fun games I have ever played :) Definitely worth pickup up - you will find it for a quid on ebay or a fiver from most shops.
As for more modern games though...Well Civ 3 is great for turn based strategy - imho much better than Civ4, less complicated in some aspects which just sweetens it's charm :)
For WW2 styling you could do worse than look at the Sudden Strike series..but again they are getting old now.
Dawn of War is a cool RTS game, we've had some great online battles between hexus members.
agreed!! get some classic C&C action in before the new one comes out next yearQuote:

I still think AOE2 with the expansion pack is great. Warcraft 3 has one of the best stories in a game I think I've played (and you have to love Blizzard's video clips). I know you said you didn't really like the Total War games, but Rome: Total War is good fun.
Online StarCraft >> *
Offline I recommend the C&C TFD pack but give generals a miss.
Rise of Nations is good and meets your criteria
Homeworld 2- For an awesome, great looking space RTS.
40K: Dawn Of War & Winter Assault- Modern, fast paced RTS.
Warcraft 3- Brilliant story, great characters, quite long.
Star Wars: Empire At War- Not as good as any of the above, but lots of fun, especially the space battles.
C&C Generals: Cool units, graphics, uber weapons.
I will also chime in with "Dawn of war" it is a great RTS, the single player is a bit modiocre but it really comes into its own on multiplayer.
You can pick up DoW + winter assault for £25 atm.
I would also reccomend Civ 4 as I have been playing a LOT of that, there are some of us that get together for on-line multiplayer and that really burns the hours away.
will second G4Z and say Civ 4, its highly addictive, and is one of the few games where i've needed to read the manual;)
War - Act of War (and the add-on pack) are pretty nice and havent been mentioned yet, might be a bit too like C&C Generals for some peoples taste.
Non War - Sim City 4 wasnt to bad but I could never get into it as it seemed like it took days just do do something.
total annihalation if u can still find it, a true classice
starcraft - uberness
homeworld 1 and 2 - for beautiful looking and brutal space strategy
