oo a strategy game that involves war eh? may be tricky....
Total War Eras - Includes Shogun, Medieval and rome with there addons.

id prolly reccomend that as it must have a bajillion hours of playtime in it. unless you can be more specific on your requirements? realtime/turnbased? modern/historic/sci-fi/fantasy and all that gubbins

Thanks for the reply, i have medieval total war and didn't really like it, like the sorta war games like red alert 2 and yuris revenge but didn't like the newer one generals. Also games that you have to control a country and run every part of it inc. blowing up your rivals to bits games like that? also intereseted in any games themed on WW2.

You could do worse than find a cheap copy of Codename: Panzers Phase 1. It looks great and is quite a good RTS WWII game. Phase 2 appeals less as it's North African based, unlike the European theatres in Phase 1.

You could pick up the C&C decades pack for some classic C&C gaming.

If you havn't played it, Dawn of War is amazing, theres 1 expansion pack out for it now with another one coming soon.

Age of Empires 3, this is kind of set in early colonisation of the americas, I don't like the AoE series too much really though, bit repetitive aand gets old.

Warcraft 3 if you havn't got that, again it's not my cup of tea but alot of people love it.

There are a few great RTS games coming soon, a new C&C game that looks like it'll be good, and an excellent looking game called Supreme Commander. I think these arn't out till next year though.

For some country control type stuff you could try Civ4.
Blowing enemies to bits and Dawn of War scores quite highly.
Classic RTS and you can't beat starcraft+brood war

I'd probably class dungeon keeper as a 'god-sim' class of game, although it's a pretty unique blend of god-sim and puzzle game IMO

    C&C Red Alert
    Starcraft
    Warcraft 2 & 3
    Warhammer Dawn of War 4000
C&C 3 Coming Soon looks awesome
I cant remember the name, but ms did release some good ones aswell. Based on romans etc.

Rise of Nations - and a good call, I'd forgotten about that one, could meet OPs requirements quite well. As could age of empires for the more civ like gameplay.

Dungeon Keeper (and Dungeon Keeper II) has to be one of THE most fun games I have ever played Definitely worth pickup up - you will find it for a quid on ebay or a fiver from most shops.

As for more modern games though...Well Civ 3 is great for turn based strategy - imho much better than Civ4, less complicated in some aspects which just sweetens it's charm

For WW2 styling you could do worse than look at the Sudden Strike series..but again they are getting old now.

Dawn of War is a cool RTS game, we've had some great online battles between hexus members.
