    Talking Streets Of Rage 2

Been playing this all evening (instead of revising for finals, oops!).

What a game! Best title on the Mega Drive in my opinion brings back memories of me and my cousin staying up all night to play it... there was a cheat to put the difficulty on insane and treble the number of lives!!

Anyone else remember this gem of a game?

    Suman

P.S. Yes I have (temporarily at least) changed my avatar in honour of this game

Absolutely mint game. I think I preferred this to SoR3 to be honest due to the 'rose tinted spectacles' effect. I still think the best megadrive game was gunstar heroes. Bosses every 3 seconds that were simply huge on when set on hard very difficult to best. Gunstar heroes for best megadrive graphics. The 'core' boss towards the end just rocked, you have to defeat a spinning room!

Great game, and included a fine soundtrack from Yuzo Koshiro, who got himself a bit of a reputation after that one.

If we're talking Mega Drive, I'd give Landstalker and the Shining Force games a go. I remember them being great fun.

You view the battle from the big screen they're watching...can be seen here:

SteveC, yeah the soundtrack was amazing!!

I miss the days of gaming when we were little when Sega were still alive and battling it out with Ninty. None of this Sony/MS rubbish

Oh man, those games took over my life!!! Shining Force just blew me away for atmosphere...think it was the first RPG I ever played and I loved it. The bit where you choose which area to go to, the town or the mines, then it zoomed in....that was incredible graphics at the time.

I remember seeing a preview of Landstalker in some magazine and thinking the graphics looked amazing, first decent isometric game I'd seen on the MD, and then it didn't come out on a UK version for years...I loved playing it, but there was a section where the path was blocked by a big boulder and I just couldn't get past it. Thinking it was a glitch in the game I started from scratch (no mean feat since I was hours and hours in) only for it to still be there. I gave up after that.

Back OT, Streets of Rage 2. Fine game. Worth picture for the avatar too....loved that move...

those are one of the best games ever made. streets of rage, golden axe, gunstar heroes and......

PROBOTECTOR!!!! that game broke all my controls but it was worth it
you should see some of the bosses on that. the only game that pushed the mega drive to its upper most limits.

as for snes the best ones were donkey kong and zelda.

...not to mention the Phantasy Star series, number 4 being a personal favourite.

Personally I preferred it when game budgets (and so risk of failure) were smaller, developers had more freedom to innovate, technology was simpler, and graphics were 2D. 2D graphics tended to provide much more freedom for an artist to actually draw stuff - even oblivion feels (to me) like a big map filled with polygons.

As for Landstalker, that was tricky at times. As I recall, it often involved talking to just about everyone you could think of, and visiting and revisiting all locations until something interesting happened..
