    Which should I buy?

I wanna play HL2, CS:Source and DoD:Source, but there seems to be a lot of different packages, e.g. CSS on its own, DoDS on its own etc.

Would Half-Life 2: Game of the Year Edition cover me?

    Also, I'm doing a long overdue system upgrade so I have a big backlog of games to play. I've made a shortlist and basically need to know which ones are worth laying out for and which to avoid;

Call of Duty 2 - (Game of the Year edition the one to get?)
    HL2 EPiSODE 1 - (worth it?)
    FEAR
BATTLEFiELD 2 - (I'm getting 2142, but is it worth getting this too? If so, which edition?)
    Farcry
    Prey
    Doom3

    TIA

I've got all the above games and don't play any of them.. I'm still playing Desert Combat for BF1942, though I do from time to time put on COD2 or BF2 to bask in the nicer graphics

    Doom 3 I didn't really like
Prey seemed to me the same as Doom 3 :\
Far Cry I really enjoyed, very pretty game

Be aware that HL2: Episode 1 is very short...about 4 hours long in total. It's a very good game in it's own right, though, but I think it's probably more important to be involved in the storyline of HL than the gameplay to want to play this. Remember that Episode 1 is the first of 3 that make up a whole sequel to HL2 (in fact they were originally going to release these as HL3: Episode 1 etc.)

Doom 3 is very very atmospheric and very pretty, but it can be very samey when you're going through dark corridor after dark corridor.

I wouldn't buy BF2 if you are getting 2142. 2142's Titan mode is the most entertaining mode I've played in a BF game, even if the engine needs sorting out.

I played Quake4 through on single player, and that was thoroughly enjoyable - just a bit of a sci-fi horror romp. Nothing to challenge the brain, but it looked good and played well. Quite short though.

FEAR has a lot more of a story/depth than Quake 4 as a fps, but I found the grim atmosphere a bit dull after a while. Still looks really good and has a max-payne slo-mo stylee button which is good fun. Graphics are stunning and very taxing

For both FEAR and BF2 you'll need 2GB of RAM, and a decent gfx card.

Does the link above contain both Counterstrike Source and Day of Defeat Source? If not, are there any versions that do?

Or if you don't want to go for the full package that directhex suggested you could go for this one http://www.steampowered.com/v/index....kage&SubId=80& at a little cheaper $60 + tax

A couple of friends and i went for the multiplayer pack http://www.steampowered.com/v/index....kage&SubId=42& at $30 + vat which worked out at about £17, and it was well worth it, loving cs:s and dod:s.

Prey : Extremely good but only around 6 hours play sart to finish. Mind you it is a damned good 6 hours !

Farcry : This one lasts a good while start to finish with loads of different locations. Theres also a few patches out there that updates the engine to make better use of current hardware.

FEAR : I personally really liked this one. Many say it is a bit repetetive in places with overly long sections looking the same. I found that it was great start to finish.

Call of Duty 2 is decent enough and a fair length, personally didn't think it had as much appeal as the first one though. Another thing I found with it was at times it would keep spawning enemies until you managed to push forward to a set point.

As for the Battlefield series, me personally I am waiting for Quake Wars.
