Help with counter strike sourc LAG!?

hi...i just bought the game this week...and i install the game...then i joined a server from the list of servers that comes up when u click the find servers button..after i downloaded the required files for the server and joinded the game, i was just laggin like crazy..i could move and shoot but i was just laggin for now reason. I dont lag when i play ne of my other games just this one???

    PC SPECS:
    intel pentium 4 processor 541
    3.2 GHZ processor speed
    800 MHZ FSB, 1MB L2 CACHE
    7200 RPM with 8MB CACHE
    512 DDR RAM
Plug and Play Monitor on intel(R) 82915G/GV.910GL Express Chipset Family (graphics card)

I disabled windows firewall and i have windows defender...and norton internet security(which is only running not windows defender). Nortona internet security has its firewall on i think...and i think i allowed access for CSS.

SO could ne one help me fix this problem of lag i am having please??

AND im new to the game....so i dont know what CHOKE means or how to access the console in game. basically i am a noob at this game lol...so if u can help me that would be nice.

Your processor speed is fine, but you're light on memory and integrated graphics simply do NOT cut it for modern games. I'd recommend upping your memory to at least 1GB and getting a decent graphics card; something like a 7600GT would be a massive improvement assuming that your board has a PCI-Express X16 slot for a graphics card, and a 256MB 7600GT can be had for less than £90 inc VAT.. I don't know what other games you play, but I'm surprised that ANY recent game could perform acceptably using those graphics.

You don't say whether you're on dialup or broadband, but if online play is OK with other games (are any of those shooters, or are they less time-sensitive?) then it seems less likely to be a connection problem.

I think the issue is in your graphics card. The integrated graphics on your 915G can't keep up so the lag you see is proabably frame studder while the graphics tries to render the next frame. The graphics might do the job for some games but you will need to turn down your settings or upgrade to discrete graphics.

well for one, the reason those "old games run fine" is beacuse they are old games lol. you could tell us what motherboard you have that will avail a decision, as for 200 bg dont quite know what that was meant to mean lol. but tbh no games deserves onboard

You're confusing memory with disk space. You could do with increasing your RAM (that's the 512MB bit) to 1024MB (1GB). Your biggest problem is the graphics, though. You really need a decent graphics card.

Your connection ought to be fine.

If you can tell us the make and model of your motherboard, we can probably work that out for you. The chipset you describe is a PCI-E chipset, but the actual board may or may not have an X16 slot for a graphics card.

What you can do for a quick fix other than putting all the graphics settings right the way down is cap the FPS.

Press the tilde key, which is the key just to the left of the number one key and is below the escape key, then type. "fps_max 30" this will stop the framrate from going above 30 frames per second.

May not sound like much, but it stopped all lag issues for me on my Socket A based PC.

My parents bought the computer in store from commet, and its a Gateway make with a samsung monitor.

erm...i ran the video test about 5 times and my fps was never about 22..the lowest i got was 17.76.

how do i adjust my rates to suit my connection speed or what ever it is??
