They tend to be a pain in the ass if you want a refund

Last time I took something back to game they wanted my address, phone number, email etc. So thats a hassle if you don't want to give over that information but otherwise you should be okay. I think they still operate a 14 day money back garentee but can't say I have brought anything from them recently.

As an employee, this is an easy one.

We have a 10-day returns policy on everything except PC games if you complete/don't like them. At my store, we will descretionarily refund PC games, but only onto a gift card or exchange them, but thats if our manager is feeling kind (its not in our policy to).
From the 29th, a new returns policy is coming into effect. It covers all purchases for 28 days from sale, providing the product still has our seal on it (all products will be sealed before leaving the store, and obviously if its faulty its exchanged for a new one). This is because some people were really abusing the 10-day returns, and in some cases, returning/exchanging games every 10 days.

    Hope that helped slightly.

A screen does pop up on our tills if we're refunding, but we don't tend to take any information. H/O does want customer info, but they shouldn't make you give it to them unless they're a really anal store.

Was the same in the store i worked in.
Refund isnt an issue for anything but PC games and Consoles. Even then, if it was obviously genuine, we'd do PC too. The "no PC rule" is basicly there to stop the "buy and copy" which was happening *all* the time.

BlackDwarf - does that mean 10days as we know it is stopping then ? (ie. returning somthing because its not liked ?)

Yup. 10 day is stopping completely. It will still apply for anything bought until the 28th. So if you buy something on the 28th, you'll still have your 10 days until 7th Nov.

People were majorly abusing the 10-day no-quibble policy, hence its changing to as long as its still sealed. Great for us

I agree - easier if you work there (would have made my life a lot easier !), but from a company view, its a dumb move.
There are other ways to stop the 10 day abuse (we started to ban people from using it), i think this may hurt some genuine customers.

We do stop people abusing the 10 day in our store. Cos they have to have the original reciept, we can see if they've 10-dayed something before, and if they try it a second time, we refuse.

You're right, its gonna piss some people off, but they're gonna be the people who abuse the system. The paperwork we have to do for a return/exchange is astronomical, and not friendly on a busy saturday afternoon.

If people get something for a birthday thats more than 10 days away, its going to be beneficial, they can return it in its original condition, easy.
We've gotten some 10-days at my store which were blatantly purchased, disliked, but scratched the hell out of in the space of 2 days, and we are obliged to return them, and it goes back to our store as shrinkage, which hurts us.

whats the score with hardware returns these days? Are they still part of the 10 day thing (or were they)

they wouldn't replace my DS lite with 1 dead pixel (now found 2 ) 4 days after purchase.

They're not covered under 10-day (last thing we want is people 'renting' consoles), but all consoles, even preowned are guaranteed for a year after purchase with us (and the manufacturers warantee too).

Dead pixels are a bit different, it depends what they're stuck on, where on the screen, if they're visable through general play etc. They're probably treated a bit the same as how Scan would treat a screen with dead pixels.

We've never had a DS returned for dead pixels though, heh.

Depends where as up in Scotland we trialed and stopped the 10day afew months ago

Apart from afew general annoying customers the only people who have been annoyed with the change are those who buy things, play them, and then want all their money back.

You'll always have to fill in some info as its as much to cover Game incase anything goes wrong or things are stolen etc.

If you bring hardware back now we'r ment to properly test it. Amazing how many consoles work happily on our TVs...
