Should I buy an XBOX 360?

I wasn't too fussed about games and stuff much when the XBOX 360 was released, had previous consoles; Master System, Megadrive, PS1, N64, Dreamcast, PS2 and Gamecube. However, never bothered with an XBOX and the 360 didn't really appeal to me. I just guess I was one of the more old skool gamers. Also, getting older, less time to play games. However, I'm close to buying an XBOX 360.

The new wave of games coming out over the next month or so look awesome. Really interested in GoW and Forza 2 Motorsport to name just 2. I played Splinter Cell around my mates house and it blew me away. Damned impressed.

I don't think the Wii is for me to be honest. I'm sure it'll be a great little console but I want something more sophisticated. I'd love to be able to wait for the PS3, but every week, there's more negativity towards Sony and their new console. I'm not happy they don't give a crap about European gamers.

Is it a good time to buy an X360?

Been trying to look around for deals and Curry's have a 10% discount on their products at the moment.

Anyone heard through the grapevine any drops over the coming weeks at all?

Cheers guys. Been thinking about buying one alot this week! =]

don't hold your breath for a price drop. the only *slight* possibility is the HD-DVD drive being undled with the premium console, but that probably won't be until christmas 07 in this country

if you want to play games available on 360, then get a 360. it's the only reason to get one

I'm in the same boat........however I do most my gaming on the PC - WoW, BF2, HL2 - so I am used to high res gaming, however the online side of the Xbox360 sounds appealing. Wii also sounds fun for when m8s come round and with GF. Its a really hard choice.

I WOULD like to buy a console with Blue ray compatibility to cover my new dvd player as well - I understand 360 will be getting a Blue ray upgrade - but I don't know that for sure, I think I will go for a Wii to keep me going and then see what happens with PS3/360 nxt year.

    the xbox 360 will be getting a plug-in USB HD-DVD drive - *NOT* blu-ray.

Yep, the Xbox 360 USB drive is most definitely HD DVD and NOT Blu-ray.

Argos have a Core system listed at £199, though you'll have to buy a hard drive or memory card to add on, so you're better off with a premium pack.

There's no price drop on the cards as far as I know and with the PS3 delayed until next year, I don't think MS will drop the price for this Christmas though you might find some good bundle deals knocking around.

There are some good game packages out there that could save you a few pounds although currently the Curry's 10% off deal is the best just now. If there's games you want to play on the 360 then get one. Keep an eye out for Gears of War....
An Atlantean Triumvirate, Ghosts of the Past, The Centre Cannot Hold
The Pillars of Britain, Foundations of the Reich, Cracks in the Pillars.

My books are available here for Amazon Kindle. Feedback always welcome!

    Thanks for replies fellas.

I keep playing Counter Strike: Source at the moment so it's not like at the moment I have no time for games!

I have a 42" plasma which i got a couple of years ago, didn't think it supported High Def, but my mate bought his 360 round a few months, hooked it up using the DVI cable and managed to run in HD, so bit of a bonus.

Will probably get one towards end of the month, to see what spare cash I have.

One gripe I have is that I am shockingly poor @ FPS's with a controller (only one I was good at was Goldeneye on the N64!), but hopefully will get better with practice. Find the co-ordination hard.

I've had no end of fun with mine (on it most nights). If you do decide to get one get a premium over the core as the extra you'll end up paying to get it up to the same spec is crazy (HDD, HD cable, headset and a wireless joypad (extra joypad not strictly neccesary, but nice)).
