Question I'm thinking of buying a PSP tomorrow for my birthday...

    I mostly a PC gamer but want a hand-held.

Is a PSP a good buy?

Depends on what games you're into.
PSP has loads of rehashes of PS2 titles. If thats what your after - go for it
Also a fairly good MP3 / video player.

I have a DS however, i found the games much more enjoyable. I wasnt a big fan of the touch screen at first on it, but it has grew on me loads !

I had one and sold it. Thumb cramps like jim and imo, it was too fiddly to play in general. As Agent says the games are just like PS2 games but they dont play aswel because of the control limitations and the smaller screen.

In short one you get over the sexeh gadget novlety , you wonder why you bothered.

I was hoping everyone would say 'wow you have to get one!' but...

The ds games look a little childish..?

I want to play GTA stories.

    Hmmmmmm.....

    Hmmmm

    Hmmm..

go to a games shop, and buy the game you want

if it needs some kind of accessory like a dance mat or a whole new console, then that's just the nature of the beast

t'is the only sensible way to game, y'know

PSPs main feature isn't supposed to be little programs etc. it's meant to be games (with PS2 graphics).

Apparently PSP might be getting the PS3s O/S updates

(PS3 uses same layout/OS as PSP in case you didn't know)

I'd used both the PSP and DS and far preferred the DS, ended up getting a DS Lite for my birthday and it is a great little toy.

Truth be told I don't use it quite so much due to my 360, but I certainly prefer it over the PSP. The games are more enjoyable and the touch screen is fantastic.

I dont own a PSP but I have tried one. The graphics are impressive but I really didnt like the controls, GTA liberty stories just didnt have the feel of GTA3 on PS2 for me and suffered for it badly. Plus, if I want to play games like that I have my PC, as you do.

I bought a DS and then replaced it with a DS lite and it just cannot be beaten as a portable gaming experience imho. I love the sleep feature, you can be in the middle of a game and you get interupted, say its your stop on the bus or whatever. You snap the lid shut and its asleep, open it up again and pick up right where you left off.

DS has some cracking games, I highly reccomend Mario Kart DS, Super Mario Brothers and advance wars DS. I really hope they do some sort of house music UK version of elite beat agents or Osu! Tatake! Ouendan as its known in Japan.

Ill go completly the opposite way, i really enjoy the psp, and although some games are dodgy rehashes of ps2 games, Liberty city stories is excellent (imo) and games like lumines and loco roco are so ludicrously addictive it isnt even funny. imo theyre excellent for long trips, as the video functionality really comes into its own, a web browser is a surprisingly handy thing to have too.

i owned a PSP, sold it a long time ago, i just wasn't using it to its full potential, using it to watch movies, listen to music etc. as i have all that stuff already (mp3 player, large dvd collection)

i moved over to a ds last month, and have to say its unbelievable. Mario DS is just absolute quality, and the other games are amazing too...

Like has been said before, go for what u like

I love my PSP, but I do like my platformers like Death Jr and Medievil Ressurection (Medievil 1 and 2 are my favourite games ever alongside Last Ninja series! )

It all comes down to personal preference, my daughter has a DS and yes I like it but prefer the more mature titles on the PSP. I also personally think the PSP hardware is a bit more powerful than the DS.
