    XBOX 360- Few questions

    Hi there,

I hardly use my PC for gaming anymore, and Im thinking of selling the hole thing (bar the HD) and going for a Macbook or a laptop or something much smaller. Then getting a XBOX 360 for gaming.

    Questions-

    1. Is an XBOX 360 Quiet?

    2. Do I need a HD TV? How much is a decent 30" + ?

    3. How do I get online? Wireless?

    4. Does it ever crash ?

    Thanks.

    1. The Xbox 360 is quiet except from when you are playing games. The disc drive makes quite a racket.

    2. You don't need an HDTV but the experience is considered better if you do have one. 30" + should be about £700+ for a decent one.

    3. You can connect an ethernet modem to your xbox or you can connect to your home network over ethernet. You can also buy a wireless adapter that will connect to your router and find the internet.

    4. You'll have to wait and see if it crashes or not. Something like 3% do crash

unfortunately they aren't quite quiet when playing a game. If you had the sound on mute, you would be able to hear it humming. Once you have the sound going though I dont notice it. I havent tried playing a DVD on it yet as i only bought mine yesterday!!! COD3 all the way, the multiplayer is amazing on live. Pretty much havent stop playing since i unpacked it last night No crashes for me yet!

Also, something you might not be aware of, you can stream wmv videos and music from your PC to the xbox360 which is a nice bonus. You can also show pictures from your pc on the tv. If you do get one make sure you sign up (and pay for) xbox live gold. You can also download demos of games to help you decide what is worth buying. Beats buying a magazine subscription. All of thsi is what makes the 360 so special

Anyway, if like me you have been umming and arrghing, get one now. I certainly don't regret it

So to play online you need to pay monthly?

i paid yearly, £40 i think. When you buy the console from new they give you a months free trial of xbox live gold (the one you need if you want to play online) as well. TBH you will get hooked on it from the off. If you do decide to get one, my local GAME store was offering one with 2 official wireless control pads, PGR3, PES6 and one game from a choice of 6 for £320. Included in that choice of 6 was Call of Duty 3 which was only released on Friday (so i chose that, £40 - £50 game for £20 is a bargain), and is absolutely a blast online (and offline).

It looks like I was in the same position. I only really used my PC for playing BF2, and that started to grate a bit. Get one....you wont look back. If you end up with one PM me and i'll send you my gamertag so we can be on each others friends lists.

    1. It is quiet, but when i play games noise level does go up a bit! i have mine standing so not sure if its any different laying down.

    2. I was using a standard little t.v think it was like 12 or 13" but now i have a 27" samsung hdtv and OMG!! xbox 360 is amazing! so i would advise a HDTV

    3. I use wierd as i have a wired router for my 2 house computers. My m8 uses wireless but he had to buy an extra xbox 360 item for this to work, so if want to get online quick just stick to wired.

    4. Ive only ever had 1 crash and that was on Test Drive Unlimtied. Ive heard that the 1st 360's released have had a few crashes due to over heating.

But so far so very good!

No source. It's just a general figure. It is a very low percentage though that's for sure.

But is it a general figure you just made up? Where did 3% come from?

    Anyway:

No, its not quiet, its actually quite loud when playing a game; not so bad if its idle.

No, you don't need a HDTV, and a decent one is still loads of cash.

You get online with a modem connected to the 360, or via wireless. This is all explained in the manual.

My 360 was pretty much stable, but Dead or Alive 4 crashed a few times. Apparently 2.94% of them do crash though.
