Well done Relic / Company of Heroes

Not only have they managed to produce a very good RTS game which feels polished, plays amazingly well at high resolutions (Take note EA !) and has excellent tutorials to help you start playing the game, but they have actually released the game without any copy protection.

    Result !
I don’t have to have the DVD in when playing the game, hearing the laser getting thraped as it jumps from sector to sector, checking for a copy protection scheme that was probably cracked before the game went retail.

I can legally back up the game as permitted under UK law with any simple writing program. Best of all? - It cost £20 brand new from GAME.

I have 2 main machines on my LAN used for gaming - the result? - I brought 2 copies of the game.

If more company’s took note of Relic / COH's actions of a cheap price and no pointless copy protection which only annoys legitimate users, I think piracy would be a lot less than it currently is. I find that people don’t have an issue with buying games, but they have an issue with getting screwed over.
Honestly....20 quid for a top game....I spend that much in about an hour on a night out

    Bargain. Go and buy it!

I really enjoyed COH and as you said I was really impressed with the fact it didnt need any CD to play.

The latest patches they released for the DoW games took away the need for the CD as well. Go Relic!

I would recommend COH to people to play... ok its just a re-skinning DoW that has been polished but how is that a bad thing

Took me a while to realise that didn't need the CD/DVD. Until I noticed it sitting on the side after ripping a CD the next few days I kept noticing but thought I was going mad!

Its a good job, I think they are going for its needing to be registered to be patched idea.

I wish more games didn't require the CD to play, it really gets on my nerves having to rumage though my CD wallet to find the right one.

Didn't realise CoH didn't require the CD, so thats an extra + point to it's already long list.

Havn't developers/publishers realised yet that adding copy protection to thier games only costs THEM, and doesn't really make pirating the game much harder? Seems a couple have, but I wish more would follow suit.

It used to be that you had to have the CD in because not all the game files were copied onto your hard drive (back in the old days of Baldurs Gate and Diablo II) to save on space. Now we've got lots of HDD space modern games put everything on the HDD, so we don't really need the CDs anymore after it's installed.

Awesome game, had it since before the UK release and cant fault it.

I have to agree on the copy protection. It's just a huge annoyance. I quite often buy games and put the NoCD patch on them just to avoid the hassle. Well by quite often, I mean every single game I can get away with it and it not effect online play.

Probably not legal, but I paid my money so who cares?

Totally agree, even Steam is better than disc-based copy protection. I'd rather get an online check and not have to keep a disc in the drive.
