Wiis in Virgin stores on the day

Just been in Virgin and they said that all of their stores are getting a small amount of Wii on the launch day to sell to those who haven't pre-ordered.

Walsall said they were getting 5, so the chances are still slim of getting one, but it could be worth a punt if you're really desperate. (ssshhh, keep it in the family).

BTW, did you know you had to buy a retro controller separately if you want to play the Virtual console games? Hadn't heard this before, unless he's mistaken.

i think thats right about the retro controller. Although someone has announced a retro controller USB adapter so if you already have a NES controller (or two) you can use that. I'm guessing that will be cheaper than an official Nintendo controller too.

    EDIT:

That's all good but the Nintendo retro controller has analogue sticks for the N64 games. You may be better off just shelling out £12 for Nintendo's one.

Tip for all the Wii fans HMV is selling extra Wii remotes and nunchuk, and the retro controller, cheaper than anywhere I've seen.
£24.99 for extra remotes (instead of the £29.99 everywhere else) and for the nunchuk and retro controller £11.99 (instead of the £14.99 everywhere else)

Can't you use an old GC controller as an alternative to retro?

Yes you can, for the virtual console games you can use either a Gamecube controller, or the Retro controller, or even the Wii Remote for NES games.

(But you CANNOT use the Retro Controller for gamecube games - you have to have a proper gamecube controller for them).

There are also going to be third party NES -> GC and SNES -> GC adapters so you can connect old controllers to the gamecube ports for the virtual console games.

Here is a link to the page that shows which controllers support the virtual console games. The Gamecube controller does most, but not all.

Ah ha... it's been updated since I last saw the chart. I didn't realise that the Gamecube controller would only work with some of the Megadrive and Turbo-GFX games.

There are also news stories appearing that there will also be a couple MSX and Commodore 64 games making their way to the Virtual Console.

It would be nice to see some really old classic games reappear. And as Nintendo release more games each week the UK launch should have quite a nice selection from the off. Lucky for me I can hold off buying myself a Wii as my house mate has one pre-ordered.

I think my main anticipation is for games to come out with online multiplayer support. I've only heard of one game that will support it. Sadly it is a Pokemon game due for release in japan sometime with month apparently although there is no real info about the game out. But it is billed as "the first online-multiplayer enabled game for the Wii."

I'm sure I read somewhere that Elebits from Konami (out this month in Japan) has online multiplayer too...

Is there any news if Metroid Prime Corruption will have online multiplayer?
