What sort of performance will this setup get with Oblivion? If anyone has similar specs can you please post how it runs? Thanks![]()

Thanks, I would probably be running it on 1024x768 anyway so if I get high settings on that resolution I'm happy.
You'll be able to run at roughly medium settings, depending where on the fps/pretty graphics scale you prefer to sit. Your main limitation will be the CPU and memory speed - this means towns will be pretty slow as will background loading of areas outside. Make sure to turn down actor and object distance. I'd probably run without shadows as well, to try and unload the CPU as much as possible.
But with a bit of tweaking you should still get a very playable experience.
Best bet is to actually edit the .ini file to cut down the amount of grass etc in the outdoor areas, also setting memory and the likes. Theres loads of tweaks out there for this file and it is definately worthwhile doing it as I can run the game in medium to high settings in 800x600 with 4 samples of AA.
Before doing the tweaks it was runing like a dog even on low settings. Just google oblivion tweaks and you will find loads of sites listing what you can do.
I've managed to play this game at 1024x768 on medium setting with 6600GTs in SLi so I'm sure your 7600GTxxx will do better than this. With grass and registry tweak, max frame rendering 0, framerate was good enough even inside Oblivion gate. But then suddenly I got animation freeze bug after about 300hours of gametime and that really has ruined my gameplay tho![]()
Is Oblivion's steep system requirement on the upper end the result of amazing graphics or limited optimisation (I've not played the game, and have only seen screenshots)?
I think it is a bit of both really. It does look amazing if you have the power to run it, however the optimizations for lower to mid systems isn't to great. My PC is not overly powerful (roll on the new year! ) so I found that to get the best out of Oblivion I had to tweak the .ini file to suit my system and get better performance.
Mind you even on medium settings the game still looks gorgeous.
yeah the graphics are pretty sweet even lower down in the scale, and apparently there is about 10 minutes where the game runs reallllllllly sloooow anyway, so my friend says, and he has 7800GTs in SLi...
