Can't log into the Steam servers

Working fine last night, but now i cant log into Steam; "Steam is having trouble logging into the steam servers".

Can anyone else get in?

The Steam server status seems to indicate they are all fine, is there anything i can try at my end?

Found the issue...

There is currently a huge power outage in Bellevue/Seattle. Unfortunately ETA for when the power will be restored is unknown as the power company will only work on restoring it after the winds have died down.

Major storm in the Seattle area has knocked out the power so the Steam user accounts server is down. No one in the world can log in to verify the account.

3 people killed already, so i can live without a day CS guess.

That said, i am surprised they don't have a back up server elsewhere. But hey ho.

I see what you mean but around 10-20 miles is the usual area for where peoples off site server backups are so if its the whole Seattle area it could of taken that out too.

Aha, s'ok then as long as its not just me, just tried it n it woudlnt work, tried to get it to recover my account details and it said no such account or soemthing similar...

Really surprising they don't have a backup auth server somewhere else. The certainly have plenty of content servers around the globe.

I guess they will in a few weeks though. Things breaking like this are usually a good motivator.

As soon as the weather in Seattle improves. As soon as the Storm dies down the power engineers will restore the electricity supply.

The whole point of the interenet was to stop this sort of thing happening. Nice one steam.

It's pretty bad really. No 'official' announcement either. Steam needs a real overhaul - I mean the browser built into the client now features purchasing, videos, media, shopping baskets and what not, but the interface has no maximize button even.
