    Wii Graphics: a real dissappointment

Having had 24 hours with my Wii I'm starting to get to know it a bit better, Wii Sports is amazing, by far the best title I own.

I bought Zelda today, popped it in, it booted up, there I was looking at a PSone/gamecube game.. Its horrid. Jaggies galore and very dodgy looking smudged textures - seriously what were Nintendo thinking?

I can already see this console getting dumped by developers very quickly, as its just not powerful enough for the next-gen era. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting it to be a console beast like the 360/PS3, but I really was shocked at how poor Zelda looked.

Does anyone else thats got one think the same?

as for being dumped by developers, developers will go where there's profit - hence making games for the substandard ps2 in the last generation instead of the meatier gamecube or xbox. if wii pulls off a decent market share - and has development costs of less than half the competition, by current estimates - then any developer who drops it would have to be some money-hating madman

Thats a great screenshot of Zelda, pity its absolutely tiny and doesn't show off the horrendous (gamecube games DID look better to me) jaggie edges and blurry textures.

I'm not saying the gameplay is bad. I'll put it another way, if a game has great graphics and everything else is great but the gameplay is poor, its onl 3/4 a great game. If the gameplay is great, but the graphics are poor the same rule applies.

Don't know if its because I'm using component or not but seriously Zelda looks nowhere near that good on my Wii.

Developers will start moving away from the PS2 in a year or two, and I imagine the Wii may not last a lot longer.

Just out of interest Directhex do you actually own a Wii?

I think you're comments are a bit harsh.

When I got the Wii.... I wasn't expecting GoW graphics.... I knew thats not what the Wii's about. Its about a whole new way of playing games, and it does that amazingly.

I personally think Zelda looks really nice now i've gotten my component cable, and I'm really quite pleased with it.

It's estimated that Nintendo make about $30 - $40 profit on every single Wii sold, and it's now officially the most succesful console launch in the history of UK gaming. Add to that the millions sold worldwide and their hopes of hitting 4m by the end of the year, I'd suggest that whatever Nintendo were thinking was bordering on genius.

On the Zelda front, remember it's a Gamecube game ported to the Wii, with tacked on new control system and mirrored. As far as I'm aware, they didn't tinker with anything else whatsoever... they simple held the title back for the Wii launch. Some might say that's a cop out, I'd say it's another absolute stroke of genius - it's estimated that about 75% of people who bought the Wii also bought Zelda. Anyway back to my original point, even though I think you're horribly over-exagerating how bad you think the graphics are, you're basing it on a game not even developed with the console in mind. Give it a chance!

Seriously Zelda is beautiful, I have a Wii and have been playing it religiously, I'm not a fanboy or anything, I've never owned and Xbox, PS2 or Gamecube (or a DS for that matter). Zelda looks fantastic, especially the twilight areas, the bloom is just brilliant. The textures look fine, no obvious jaggies, everything is smooth and shiny! The animations are brilliant, especially in the cut scenes, the control are intuitive and accurate, whats not to like?

That screenshot is accurate! That dungeon really does look that good... Makes me wonder, what size TV set are you running it on? Are you using the upgraded cable?

I'm running it in 480p component on a Hyundai A321 (32"), and it just looks damn ugly... Honestly jaggies to the core. Just to reiterate, I wasn't expecting Gears of War graphics, but equally I wasn't expecting to see graphics looking worse than a gamecube did on my TV - maybe its something I've got wrong in the setup, but Wii sports seems to look ok, i.e. no jaggies, same with Wii play... They're both "arcadey" though (and I do understand that they are meant to be that way).

I played them, then put Zelda in and was just taken a back at how poor it looked.

Anyone else playing it in 480p?

I sold my Wii after 2 days... Really weren't getting it.

Can see it being a fad that quickly dies out, for the non Wiintendo fans (such as myself)...

The games release list looks less than inspiring.
