Xbox 360 buying advice for N00b

Right, Im going to give the Xbox 360 a try, but before I do, I have a few questions.

The 20gb hard drive, is this just for game saves?
if so, what are the memory stick things for?

With the right cable, will an Xbox 360 output at 1366x768 (and what is the right cable, HDMI?)

Ive seen some bundles with wireless controllers, do these take normal rechargable batteries?

I think this
seems to be the best deal that I can find at the minute, or should I be going with the core system?

thanks

HDD saves game saves and additional content like trailers, demo's etc

Memory stick allows copying of save files and transferring of your Live profile.

A 360 outputs at 720p which is the res you mentioned I believe

Yes the wireless controllers take rechargeables (I use both of mine with them)

Deffo go for the Premium system. Gears is a must-buy game, some places like GAME have some bundles with it but that one seems decent

Thanks mate,

So 720p over the supplied component cable then? or do I need a different one?

As long as you have a component RGB input to our display (and that displays 720p) then you will be fine. You can buy a VGA cable if you so feel

Best deal I've seen is gamestation mate, £340 for the premium system, extra controller, PGR3, the arcade game thing and any 3 games of your choice. Hell I was tempted to buy it!

saves and other junk. the memory stick things are for people who buy the core pack, which has no hard disk.

vga.

yes, or you can buy a "quick charge kit" or "play & charge kit" which include a charger & rechargable battery pack.

yes, that's a good deal. don't waste time with the core pack (no hard disk, no HD-capable cable supplied, wired controller, ugly matt-grey drive fascia)

But hex: it's like twice as cheap to buy normal rechargeables

Also you don't actually need a VGA and having tested VGA and Component they're about the same

I have a memory stick for when I go over a mates house to play the 360...then I can take my gamer profile with me

Thanks for the info chaps

VGA will work out easier for me because the dvd player is taking up the only component connection on the tv and the tv has a dedicated vga connection. I could run it through my amp, but that would mean a lot of extra cables.

the component cable allows 1280x720 or 1920x1080

Component and VGA allows 1920x1080 (1080p) now however the component cables do not allow DVD's to be upscaled to 720p or 1080p whilst the VGA one does. HD-DVD's at 1080p work with both cables.

That may explain why my dvd's dont look so hot through my Samsung 32" connected to the 360 via component (set at 720p).

I have been using the component cable because it looks better quality than the vga one i have (cheap one from ebay). Maybe i should give the vga lead a go on the samsung.

While the component cables may do 1080p for games, who actually has a tv that accepts that res through component? I'm willing to bet not a lot
