Xbox 360 lipsync problem on DVD

Im getting a lipsync problem when playing DVDs. The delay between the picture and sound is quite small, but enough to make it annoying. It seems to get worse, the further into a disc I get.

I have done all the updates, tried pausing and playing, rebooting it, but it still does it.

I have tried 5 different discs so far, all originals.

Also, i noticed this on GOW (in the subtitled snippets between levels), but i wasnt sure if that was meant to be in sync.

Is this just how they are, and is there a workaround, or have I got a duffer.

    Thanks

Hmm, they're not supposed to be like that... our DVDs and games aren't.

It's going through an optical cable attatched to the component cable into an av amp and speakers. There are no effects turned on - on the amp, its just straight 5.1.

The sound works fine if I hook up my dvd player, or pc through the same optical input on the amp, so it is defionately the xbox, and the discs play fine in the dvd player and pc.

I think maybe the unit bad because it starts off ok and then drifts a bit and then corrects itself.

    weird.

I get this same problem if I use the optical cable to my DTS system and the left-right audio componant cable bits are connected to the TV as well. Turn the TV speakers off and it works fine.

    Thanks for the replies

I havent got the left and right audio coneected, so that rules that out.

Ill nip it back to Gamestation tomorrow and get it swapped.

I have got quite far (for me) on GOW, is there any way that I can save my progress from this xbox and transfer it onto the new one?

The only way to do it is with a memory card. You could just ask them to swap the hdd's but I doubt that they would do that. It's too helpful

Good idea about getting them to swap the drive, Ill ask them.

Not tried burnt disks, I was thinking that if it didnt work worth originals then it would struggle with burnt ones...I will try it now.

Oddly, the disc that was playing up the worst yesterday (I'm Alan Partridge Series 1 disc 1), is now playing without any problems.
It might be because it started from where it left off, I dunno.

This is probably caused by the image processing on your TV. HD signals need to be passed through a load of magical chips that add a tiny amount of latency to the image.

Normally, if your TV is handling the sound, it will add a small delay so that the audio matches up with the image.

Your AV system should have a delay setting to help compensate for this sort of thing.

Its not the TV, it is definately the xbox. There is no delay when I connect a standalone dvd player, or my pc to the same optical input on the amp
