I'm sure they'd rather be back at home.

Whats the problem with you, are you jealous? Thats all I can think of from a reaction like that.
As Norky says its to cheer them up and give them something to do other than sleep and their extremely tiring, thankless and dangerous job.
Plus they also get to test the game out on what I imagine are relativley novice gamers (give or take a few), so they get to see problems with the interface and gameplay mechanics that would not be seen but the usual fanboyish geeky beta testers.
I think its an excellent idea which benefits both parties, unfortunatley I can't read the link as I'm at work.
Why not let them test the beta as they have the personal experience as to what combat should feel like and also sound like
Maybe then they'll afterwards they'll all be asked what needs adjusting in the game settings and effects to make it more life-like and realistic therefore resulting in a better game for all.
Yeah, give em Halo 3, why not. Normally they have to put up with D list celebs like Joe Pasquale and that awful opera singer woman (can't remember her name) for their entertainment.

Personally I'm a bit surprised that people whose job it is to shoot and be shot at would want to emulate this in any form as a means of entertainment![]()

I think its pure entertainment value really, if you can't seperate a game from reality then you've got real issues! Like all those people on forums for BF2 and Counter-Strike who bang on about "....when I fire my M16 in Iraq its nothing like the game so unrealistic. Man that gun kills loads of people!".
And you're right Steven the entertainment is atrocious and they all sit there and clap graciously, I suppose after sitting in the desert camp for 4 or so months it sounds pretty good!
wtf.. one of the reasons why u wanna be a soldier so you can play the latest installment of halo first lmao
anyway, i got an uncle and he is a soldier and lots of his mates enjoys playing fps games... hes played black hawk dawn, csource and those things... =/ must be in their blood
