How damn good is that game!

Like shenmue crossed with eternal darkness and with a better storyline to boot!

One of only a handful of games to keep me glued to the console long enough to complete it in one session, if you have an x-box or a ps2 sat round gathering dust and you havn't played it go out and buy it now, its that damn good

Where you beat the hell out of most of the nypd? that was pretty damn satisfying, the rooftop fight with the oracle I thought was very cool aswell

The only problem I had with the game was the slightly random jump in time after the fun fair section, it never really fully explained that.

I remember starting it but not really getting that far into it as something else was out at that time which pulled me off it. It did seem to have a great, dark, brooding feel to it though, I may go back to it *one day*

But the funniest thing in it was getting to sleep with your ex-girlfriend and having to go into 'Dragons Lair' mode to finish her off properly. When that came up I was thinking "Errr... I wasnt expecting that to happen..." and hoped that my Gran or someone wouldnt walk past and think i was pr0ning it up....

But i think it was meant to have one of the best narratives of recent times - a hark back to the old days of point and click, where it wasnt really that important WHAT you did, but the story that unfolded WHEN you did it.

Nothing will ever come close to the original Gabriel Knight for me though...

I loved the scene on the street where you were dodging the cars and then jumped on the helicopter. Simply awesome and the flow to the whole scene was flawless.

I played it to completion over a few nights on the PC when it was first released. Ending was pretty good I must admit and leaves it wide oen for a follow on.

Only bit I wasn't to keen on was the last section where you have the flashbacks as a child, the last one was a bit tedious where you had to climb over the fence and have to get in the hangar. Took me ages to do.

There are a few sections that I didn't do either as it all depends on what decisions you make. Definately an interesting take on things though with playing both the murderer and detectives hunting him. What moral decisions do you want to take for each of the characters. I remember thinking while playing I didn't want the killer capturing just yet as he was getting really interesting !

That is so weird. I've actually just started playing it again on Tuesday.

I really want them to make more. The concept of playing basicly a movie is so cool.

personally i didnt like it that much, but that was more my fault than the games fault. From years of playing monkey island and other lucas arts games, i found it was too short, and didnt like that the puzzle elements of the game only seemed to be there to link up the action sequences. Which to me just felt like glorified mini games. It was a good game to play, but just wasn't what i wanted it to be in the end.

Hmmmm, makes you wonder. Look at Dark Messiah also on the source engine. Buggiest game ever perhaps ! At least for me Vampire was pretty stable, Dark Messiah on the other hand. I can't go any further on level 8 as I keep getting various crashes once I go through the portal at the start. Memory error or an invalid DX8 command makes it crash to the desktop in wonderful 16bit colour, where I have to restart the PC to get everything back to normal.

It seems that whenever someone else tries to do something with the source engine it appears to knack up for them.

Fahrenheit, going to have to dig that one out. Not sure where it is but I know I still have it in a cupboard somewhere. Be worthwhile playing through it again and making a few different choices to see what exactly happens with consequences etc. Need to free up some hard disc space first though as I have loads of stuff installed that I am only halfway through.

Cheers for that link man twas a proper interesting read that, the original plan to make it episodic kind of explains a couple of the storyline gaps

Anyone else seen the tech demo of heavy rain that quantic are working on? looks pretty damn good to be fair.

Yeah, I loved it, although didn't complete it.

it's a robotics theory due to when it comes from, but it's applicable to CG these days - including games & movies

"shrek", for example, originally had much more realistic looking humans - they were forced to 'cartoonify' them due to the uncanny valley.

games right now are really walking a fine line, valleywise. gears of war only survives because the protagonists are such grotesque inhuman juggernauts that you can't draw any parallels between them and real people - avoiding the valley
