Why are laptop bags so expensive?

I'm sort of in the process of getting a laptop and i was thinking of getting a backpack of some sort (the shoulder ones just make my arm go dead) and so i came across this:

    http://www.laptopstuff.co.uk/product...kpacks&manf=10

Why the hell does it cost over £100 for a freakin' rucksack???

I mean.. i'd be willing to pay up to about 50 for a decent size thing, but pushing 200 is just ridiculous - there are laptops cheaper than that!

Go into Currys or Dixons (yes, Dixons alright!) and find the friendliest looking store clerk you can. Ask them if they can do you any deals on a laptop bag using a "When Bought With" option on the till, it can cut the price by up to 50%.

You may need to sweeten the deal by getting something else while you're there as that offer is technically only for use when buying the bag with a laptop, so if you need anything else, pick it up before you ask them.

Surprisingly enough, I got my laptop bag from PC world (yes I know they're not the best shop in the world). Their selection was pretty good and some of their prices were well under what anyone else was selling them for.

The pakuma bags were £30 cheaper than online and a lot of their Tech-Air stuff was really cheap. I got a simple tech air rucksack for £20 that has done me proud so far. Definitely worth a look I'd say.

I got me a very good quality one from Argos last year, only £25. Done the rounds on many flights & still looking like new. Does the job admirably.

'Cause they're Crumpler. It's a brand name amongst bags. They're also incredibly well made, exceptionally comfortable, and very very hard wearing. I've got three, one large camera bag, one medium camera bag, and one huge courier bag for my laptop (17"). You pay a premium for the brand, but they're still one of the best bag makers out there, and I travel long haul every now and again, and it makes carrying my beast of a laptop a lot more bearable.

But I'm sure you can get something equally as good (there's always some manufacturer on the up and up willing to sell their bags knockdown to establish themselves) if you've got time to shop around. I don't, so I go for a brand I know it's going to perform even if I do have to pay over the odds for it.

I've been very pleased with my crumpler and had no issue with the price tag due to the quality and style of it.
    It is Inevitable.....

2nded vote for the Pakuma from PC world. I got the courier over the shoulder type, and despite being packed with a 17" Macbook Pro, a couple of textbooks and all the other gubbins, it's still comfortable due to a padded strap.

EDIT: Right, found one for £109, sounds like i'll be getting one of those (Crumpler Belly XL) =)

Pakuma were the choice of the HEXUS crew on the last year's worth of trips....if it can handle that then there is no better recommendation from me
Please do not message me about Scan Free shipping, I no longer work for HEXUS.net

    Aye... Pakuma bags rock.

You can fit a small midget in the HEXUS ones... or failing that a bloody great DTR media centre laptop and all the associated gubbins.

I've done full floor walks of trade shows, collecting press kits and leaflets like a mad man and still found the Pakuma to be roomy enough to take all that, my lappy and stuff my jacket in as well.

Tbh I know theres a lot of good people that work for DSG, because i used to, its really not their fault. The training at DSG used to be very sales focused and the technical knowledge training was severely lacking. If you want good advice (particularly in PC world) ask to speak to a technician, ignore that smug git thats hassling you around the laptop area cos he is only in it for the commission ( they may have scrapped commission now) and knows nothing, but would have you believe he knows it all.

One word of advice when dealing with CS staff anywhere though, be nice, be civil, no matter how irate you may be that your 30 mile round trip has had to be made 4 times to get it sorted out. Cos CS people are evil, they love making people giving them attitude suffer, its why they took the job in the first place!!

    its true!

(ps, that smug git at the laptops, that was me)

(pps, Airtech ones were pretty good a few years back)
