HD-DVD...
I heard the guys behind Blueray say they are not going to licence porn to be distubuted on their media or something. If thats true that'll be HD-DVD far ahead ^_^
HD DVD. If only because of the market penetration of the 360.
edit: To be fair, all those polls ask what the voter's own preference would be, which is a different question to which they think will eventually win out. Betamax was in many respects superior to VHS, and was the format of choice for professional video types for years. Still lost, though.

anyway, you need a fourth option in there: "don't care"
because really, does it matter?
true. but if like me you have no HD hardware of any description, then it makes no difference at all
So the only one it matters to are the ones that have a vested interest i.e. they have already got a drive.
The smart money is on hd dvd but it makes no difference to me who wins. Be it PS3 or the 360 add on drive, a console does not make a good movie player imo. I am going to wait until a winner emerges and a good, branded, stand alone player like a Sony/Philips/Toshiba/Pioneer is available at a reasonable price
Hopefully HD-DVD, and hopefully sooner rather than later. Format wars IMO are ridiculous, relying on the general public to waste their money on formats that might possibly become obsolete.. What's wrong with pooling resources and creating one single format that will generate more profits? I certainly don't think they can both exist in harmony.
I'm personally hoping for multi-format players to emerge soon, otherwise I'll probably just go for a HD-DVD player.

I personally don't believe in the whole Betamax arguement anymore as the discs are the same size so it's physically easier to make a multi-format player, so there's no real need for one format to die. It's just a bit of a shame they couldn't agree on one format originally because the consumers will foot the bill for two sets of development leading to effectively the same step in technology.
1.21 GIGAWATTS!!!!!
I really have difficulty seeing this happening, why can't PS2/XBOX trade games - same size, why can't PC play either?
I suppose a CD/DVD player is a good counter to my argument though.
Business however, isn't so kind. One format will die, it will happen, sales will swing one way and the other company will cut the loses.
HD-DVD hopefully - sounds like sales of such media will be cheaper and hence (touch wood) they'll be cheaper for us consumers...
