    An Inconvenient truth ...

    http://www.tennesseepolicy.org/main/...article_id=367

"The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359. "

I REALLY don't want to know the thought processes behind that question, although I'm reminded a little of "Deep Blue Sea" - "Jen's a healthy girl, something around here must run on batteries..."

I like the way spin is always put on things like this. Now I'm no Al Gore supporter, I don't know enough about him to judge him as being genuine or another politician using a niche to wedge themselfs into the public consciousness.

So his leccy bill is 20 times your average households? Well his film and book we're chart toppers in their own rights, with the proceeds going towards measure which will hopefully help climate change. And if only a fraction of the viewers/readers alter their lifestyle only a little and cut just a small percentage of their energy usage, that would more than balance out his own 'waste'.

Also to compare his 'household' usage with an average family is nonesense. I mean I wonder how much power greenpeace or amnesty international offices use?

Should Al Gore try to become more energy efficient? Yes, just like everyone else.

Should we all accept this bias, political spin ridden piece of journalism as proof he is a hypocrit? Well I'll let you decide for yourselfs on that.

Maybe he could suffer some inconvenience and use less power?

    1. Power consumption at the Tennessee residence in question is provided 100% via http://www.tva.gov/greenpowerswitch/.
    2. The residence has had solar panels installed to reduce consumption, and also uses compact fluorescents to reduce consumption further.
    3. The Gores purchase carbon offsets to cover their remaining usage.

    Couldn't we all?

Without seeing an itemised power bill of exactly where all that power is going, it's impossible to comment on the usage from any position of authority.

Its a MANSION for peats sake! It probably had hundreds of people living there (slaves etc). How much do you think a hotel takes up?

You're right on everything there, the see-saw US politics arena is pretty sad state of affairs. Just like the last elections it decends into name calling and trying to blacken other peoples name. Not very good for the so called civilised nation.

    So?

Maybe instead of living in a mansion, he could live in a smaller house. After all, thats what he's asking others to do.

No, he's not; he's just asking people to take steps to reduce or negate their carbon footprint. In his case, his house is big; he attempts to limit power consumption and purchases carbon offsets.
